Fantômas is, indeed, a one of a kind band.... well, that's only partly true... if Mr Patton came to such musics, his "mentor" John Zorn certainly has to be credited for such a "different" orientation... also, some other bands are almost as crazy as Fantômas... japanese Ruins (a duet), Cheval de Frise (france, duet too) and many other artists revolving around two of the most interesting challenging labels in the world : Zorn's Tzadik ( http://www.tzadik.com/ ) & Patton's Ipecac ( http://www.ipecac.com/ )... a certain credit has to be given too to old beards such as Frank Zappa, Ornette Coleman, King Crimson etc...

there's a world out there, so rich, so surprising, so breath taking most of you guys have no idea how poor metal can be when compared to the true experimentations some crazy musicians attempt too...

so, anyways, the fact remains that Suspended Animation is a godly 44mn experience for the open minded and so, all you guy should give it a try (well, at least 4... that's what you'll need to make sure if it does or doesn't work on you...) :roll:

due to my goldfish-like attention span, i never got into Fantomas. i just couldn't listen to music solely for the "sonic landscape".

so you mean Fantomas, this time round, get music, direct and all, and the atmosphere too?

If you have an attention span equal to 0, this might be the album for you Azrael, trust me

Oh, and by the way, Fantômas is ten times better live, and they're touring Europe (with Bozzio instead of Lombardo on the drums) so if you have the chance to see them, I garantee you won't regret it.

Yes indeed, for those unfamiliar with John Zorn's work it's difficult to know where to begin because he has such an enourmous discography. For metalheads looking for something a bit "avant-garde" its definitely worth giving painkiller and naked city a try. (painkiller notable for having mick harris on drums :twisted: )
Their stuff is actually quite hard to listen to, but it's worth getting just for interest value!

actually, what do people think of the "millenium monsterwork" live thing they did with the melvins? Imo this is the best fantomas have sounded on record, despite the crappy recording quality.

A guy at work who wears the same Faith No More t- shirt everyday put me onto these guys a while back . I am listening to Suspended Animation as I am writing this , the thrash with jazz fusion is a big plus for me. S.A - has so many style's and effects all combined into one and so neatly packaged into 30 short burst its a credit to all involved in making this .

30, 1 minute songs? its going to be dificult for me to be used to an album like this, i enjoyed diabolical masquerade latest effort (61 songs) but it was really odd since i could not choose a favorite track, heck not even a favorite movement, if this album is anything like this(not the style but the concept) maybe i should give it a try.

The difference with DM's last album is that several tracks composed one song, here, each track is a different song.

But believe me, you'll love this album. Actually Fantômas played live here in Mexico City last Thursday, you should have gone Voice.

yeah its a shame im not from mexico city, here (im from merida) we just get mexican bands(some are really good).

I like these experimental kind of albums so i guess that i will have to check this Fantomas band out (especially due to the line up).

I already have it (I bought it long time ago), I just though of it recently. And it is indeed excellent and excellent album, über varied.

And BM still burns in my heart, no need to have an avatar to prove my BM pride, although all those BM clones are starting to bore me to death....

Well he still has his Taake signature...

Ahem. I believe this didn't get the attention it deserved here. It is one of the best albums ever created. Mike Patton's a genius. Try this you fuckers, for something awesome that sounds nothing like anything you have never heard.

I found it to be a fun listen (once in awhile) but its not something I would wanna own or hear all that much. I think it would be alot funner creating music like this than listening to it all that much.
