Love this album so far. These guys really nail the whole Pirate Metal atmosphere. Not as good as the debut, but still a really solid second effort! Mid 80's for me.

A step down from the debut, but still a good album. The title track and "Keelhauled" kick ass, and "Wolves of the Sea" has to be one of the catchiest songs I've ever heard

Your comments about this being worst than the debut destroyed my remaining interest towards this album. Running Wild owns Alestorm in the Pirate Metal field.

It took me roughly two weeks to grow tired of the songs on CMR. It's a good album but after the tenth time I heard it I got sick of hearing it over and over. BSAM is still in regular rotation. Maybe it's because the songs got a little more complex, less jolly (in sound, not lyrics) and with a more prominent guitar presence. I should also mention that the title for most epic song on the record should go to Chronicles of Vengeance, which is also my favorite song. Only filler here is To The End Of Our Days, it's boring and you can clearly hear Chris Bowes limited vocal abilities.

With the new 'Klaani album not delivering the goods this is my folk metal album of the year so far.

I gave it an 82, as there are some pretty catchy songs on here that are good enough not to be a mere passing novelty. The title track has an insanely good riff.

My only complaint is the somewhat lacking talent of the singer, but he makes up for it in delivery and conviction. Maybe this is one reason there are so many Metal bands .. you don't actually have to be able to sing  .

I'd probably enjoy Alestorm more if the singer didn't always sound like he was auditioning for the role of the bad guy in a kids' TV show.

95 for me. Keelhauled, Black Sails at Midnight are my fav. I love the entire album. I enjoy the slow songs too. Even the ones on the debut. Great storytelling. No Quarter is fun. Its a good breather coming of off the speed metal title track. I like the end when they play the pirates of the carrebbean theme. To me its not all about speed. Its about the story of the songs being sung too. I just get into the lyrics. The album is heavier and more richer than the debut. The song arraingement is perfect too. There is a good balance. Each song has their own identity. Its spaced out pretty well. :dio:

I really loved the album too, but I had to give it a lower score then I wanted because in my mind, Alestorm is for the most part a novelty band and it doesn't seem like they're doing much to keep things fresh. Black Sails At Midnight will most likely end up on my favorites list at the end of the year though.

It increased my interest because I didn't think it was possible that any music could fail more than Alestorm's first album. Sounds like the impossible has been achieved.

I just can't believe/understand how many people get all excited over these guys. Rubbish.

I hate the gimmickyness of it. All the folk/troll stuff we got with Finntroll was kinda fun, although I've pretty much gone off it now, but this is just tacky.

Not a bad album at all, did an interview with their vocalist very funny guy. Only think that made me mad was the special edition came in after I had already got the standard one.

I think they're ok if you just take them for what they are. I bought Captain Morgan's revenge. It was enough for me, and I doubt I'll pick up this one, but that said, I still listen to it.

If you just accept them as a bit of fun and put them on when you're shitfaced with friends, I think they certainly have their place.

But why put on Alestrom when you are getting shit-faced when there are so many other way better bands that do a much better job?

Not really upset, but as AlexandeR said... Running Wild are much better at this. So why even bother with these guys?

I don't know why people use this argument, why not listen to both? If pirate metal was your favorite genre you could only listen to one band! LETS KEELHAUL THAT FILTHY LANDLUBBER YAAARRR!
