I listened to their last album (I downloaded it accidentally instead of Hate Eternal :P ) , and I didn't like it one bit. After reading your review, it seems they still suck.

Their last two reviews, To The Nines and Serpent Smiles bla bla are pretty bad, but check out The Sickness Within and Bloodred Hatred. Those are badass albums.

What the fuck is modern thrash metal? Every single band that falls under this genre is ripping of The Haunted, and the last time I checked, they are melodic death metal. There’s nothing thrash about Hatesphere nor will it ever be.

EPIC FAIL is an understatement. The whole review sucks, because the reviewer has no clue, what he is listening and there is a big aversion against everything more modern than from 1985 shining through.[/quote]

That's a big mountain of "trash" metal  . And what you said about Thomas isn't true, the guy knows his thrash, but perhaps you could enlighten us more about what Modern Thrash is, please tell us!

Modern thrash metal is easy to explain: Just listen to the current Soulfly, The Haunted (!), Cavalera Conspiracy, last Machine Head or older Sepultura. And even Exodus have no clean vocals nor haven't had in the past. Or listen to Testaments the Gathering where Chuck Billy growled like hell.

I've found dozens of reviews and everyone declared Hatesphere as Thrash Metal. Some said Thrash Death but none - except this here - dared to say it isn't thrash at all. And I think it would be the same as if I'd say that Metallicas Master of Puppets was Power Metal and rate it 49/100 because it doesn't sound like Slayer and it's too melodic for thrash. Know what I mean?

I wouldn't call it thrash metal, but it's definitely more thrash than purists like to give on. For me it fits comfortably under the wide "metalcore" umbrella.

Erm, Exodus had clean vocals on their last. Although I agree that Modern Thrash does exist now, it's various bands either ripping off The Haunted's debut or adding a good amount of groove into the mix.

This isn't thrash metal. If anything, it is groove as I stated. Influenced by thrash doesn't mean it is. And yeah it sucks. I won't bother getting into a genre discussion with a guy who called Slayer black metal. Oh and, there's a difference between raspy vocals and growls like these ones.

Slayer were black metal - at least for one album. But that were Running Wild or Sodom too. Everything at the beginning of the 80s with satanic content and lyrics could be called Black Metal because there was nothing like Darkthrone, Emperor or Dimmu Borgir. Everything with satanic lyrics and which sounded like Venom was Black Metal - because that was the definition of classic Heavy Metal with Satanic lyrics - at least at that time...

But anyway, Hatesphere has everything what thrash makes thrash: the drumming and the riffs.

Meh... Fast chugga-chugga riffs, death-like growls and even grunts, double-bass blasting and breakdowns isn't what thrash is all about. Not interested in discussing this further though, so lets agree to disagree. I don't really care what you think of the review either. Shit review for a shit album. I poured out my frustration on a bad day on an incredibly boring album.

This is a kickas album from the beginning to the end and yes it grooves like Hell, but since when should thrash not be groovy?

Sure, there are many At the Gates or In Flames influences, but there are enough high speed thrash parts which bangs the head that doesn't bang and which have nothing to do with melodic death metal...

what's more important than whether or not this album is thrash (which it isn't) is whether or not this album is good (which it isn't; Sickness Within is much better)

please, if you're going to define The Haunted as thrash then do everyone a favor and listen to some Aura Noir or something.

I don't think I defined The Haunted as thrash anywhere here?

No-one's denying the awesome Thrashiness of Aura Noir, but go back and listen to The Haunted's debut again. That's Thrash. They may have brought in enough Melodeath and Hardcore to make it questionable afterwards, but early Haunted is mos.def. Thrash.

Let's just all agree that Hatesphere suck and they don't deserve this much discussion.
