isn't this one of their albums with their crust punk influence showing?

I don't detect any punk influences here.

This album contains a couple of their heaviest riffs, for example
Quintessence which pales the rest of the album IMO.

Yeah, wtf Steve, that comes much later. And yes, Quintessence is a great song, the variety of this album is great but I love how it all fits together. As I said in the review! :)

In my opinion, this is Darkthrone's best black metal album. It's the only one I can actually sit and listen to all the way through!
Soulside Journey is still my favorite Darkthrone release though. I love me some Darkthrone Death Metal. :dio:

Really? I sat and unshamedly rocked out to A Blaze In The Northern Sky before... agreed that Soulside kicks ass though.

I for some reason cannot make it all the way through any of Darkthrone's first three black metal records, except for maybe Under A Funeral Moon. I think it's just because there's not much variety on those albums.

YOU FAIL listen to Hate Them now!

Quintessence is one of the best songs they made in their career. I don't listen to this album enough. Thanks for the reminder Z-dawg.

Nice job, Zad.
Love this album, even if it is obvious CF worship.
The riffage in En Vind Av Sorg is some of their best.

Just heard ABITNS properly a few days ago, and it fucking rules, awesome as kvlt riffage, with far less blastbeats than I expected.

Without trying to seem as the poser Zad mentioned in the review, the other classic albums are Transilvanian Hunger (which is awesome) and Under a Funeral Moon, right?

Yes, A Blaze indeed rules; listened to it last night and amazed myself yet again at how much ass it kicks. And haha, you're right: A Blaze..., ...Funeral Moon and Tranny Hunger are the other classics, but don't worry about being a poser, that's just me swinging back in the right direction after admitting to the existence of Korn last week.

 Yes some Darkthrone would have been needed for that. Aural purging to be precise. But, no worries, now you have Frigid to review all the shit bands for MR. :P

Must Admit I've never heard this one, despite having most other Darkthrone in my collection

I like this album, because of the celtic frost influence, but the vocals could be a little bit more in the background (like on ABITNS)

Agreed.
The vox are a little too assertive.
