Speaking of the newsletter...

I stopped getting it. I use to get it every monday, now I get it never. Same with the emails saying somebody has posted in the same thread as me. I use to get them all the time, but then they stopped. At first I didn't know how I'd live without them. Contemplated leaving the site, suicide, drugs, etc... But like a real man, I overcam the adversity and am still here today. Any reason as to why I would stop getting these emails and the weekly newsletter?

I would first like to thank all of you who write and make this site possible. All of your time and effort is much appreciated. After reading through this thread I only have a few thoughts and to be honest I don't take any sides in regards to genres or the argument for old vs. new.

My observation would be that in this age of readily available technology my grandmother could pick up a guitar, get her 'Golden Girl' friends to sit in, record an album, post tracks on MySpace, and burn CD's to sell all from their old age home. Meaning that there are bands out there who really have no business attempting to make music but they do it anyway because they can. There's always good and bad and I realize that it's a double edged sword, in that technology offers an outlet for talent that would otherwise not be readily heard. The issue is sifting through the tons of offerings out there today to find something worth listening to. Of course MR aids greatly in that endeavour.

As seen previously, when any band has a modicum of success then a ton of others follow trying to capatalize on the 'proven formula'. Some are good, some are fine undiscovered gems, and yet some are just damn awful. Look no further than the late 80's for proof of that. If you had aquanet, spandex, and a guitar you were signed and pushed out on tour no matter how you sounded. So, I understand both sides of this argument but we all know that there are a plethora of turds dropped in every genre for every few bands that are really good or even just mediocre.

Again, we're not going to review more than one classic per week. Only one will show up on the main page, and classics aren't included in the newsletter, so it just doesn't make sense to do it. Perhaps this can be fixed in the future, but for the time being, one a week is the max. We're really trying to do one every week though, and the number of non-classic archives per week are increasing as well, and should continue to now that we just added 5 new guys to our ranks.

And we, readers, thank you all the reviewers for the effort. But I feel sad when a week has no classic review.

About formulate suggestions, for classics we have the "What classics do you want to see reviewed?" thread, that is at the same time a "What archive records do you want to see reviewed?" and a "Discuss if that album deserves a classic status or not" thread, so it's a good place for suggestions without pm or opening new threads... And I know some of you (the reviewers that are usual forumites) read this suggestion thread, just make sure that new reviewers that don't dwell usually in the forum read that thread too.

I've wondered about going through it a couple of times in the past to gather all the requests up, but it's sixty-three pages long, and I just don't have the time. If someone has a spare 20-30 minutes and wants to, please, it'd be really helpful, even just to PM me the list and I'll try and sort out what's done and what's not, and then maybe we can start a new suggestions thread. The Zad/Mintrude thread has pretty much failed, I admit, so maybe we can formulate all requests into a single thread and that'll be a better system than us guys having to search through sixty-frigging-three pages.

I like the idea of a jumbo thread for archive review requests.

True, it is extremely long. perhaps starting a fresh new start is in order? If not, then I annoyingly ask for the same reviews every time. So there's a good chance that a lot of the later material is not in fact new, but repeated.

Perhaps. If another one does get started, keeping a list in the first post will be the point, a la Zad/Mintrude thread in Gen. Music.

If no-one else does want to trawl through the existing what classics? thread I will do it eventually.

I can do it some time this weekend. I'll be in Minnesota for part of the weekend, but Sunday is free for coach occupying internet boredom.

No. I don't get it at all anymore. Not that I really care anymore, I'm on the site almost everyday so it's not like the newsletter will tell me something I don't know. Still, weird that it just stopped coming.

I'm gonna have to agree with the originator of this thread. Over the past 3-4 weeks, I too have noticed a steady decline in power/traditional/gothic metal for death and black metal.

I figured it was from the new influx of reviewers we have on here.

Not being a fan of black metal, I've stayed away a little and I'd say there are more power/traditional metal fans on here than black metal fans...I could be wrong though.

But it's just a little concerning when you have a new week of reviews and none are power metal or traditional metal or gothic metal.

Even though I write for Metal CD Ratings, I too must agree that to get the power metal dose, I go there more often than not.

Also, this is to the reviewers at Metal Reviews...when the hell are you planning on reviewing the new Primal Fear album? Its been out for weeks now and it's been up at MCDR for quite a while, among other metal websites. I figured that this release would have the "major event" tag on it and reviewed as soon as possible....

If metal reviews is heading more towards the black metal scene with their reviews and overall, then I'd like to be informed of that...otherwise you really need to even it up a bit...

One thing is true in your post, sometimes, albums of "big bands" take quite a long time to be reviewed and that's a shame. I think the reviewers here should have a schedule of the releases in order to stick to the actuality. IMHO, this website has kind of lost what it was supposed to be.

Now, that doesn't mean I don't want classic or archive reviews but, too often, the album of those category reviewed are just not interesting.

If by "concerning" you mean "awesome", then I'd have to agree.

Fair enough, but the site is pretty current. Often I see things turning up reviewed here, and then about three months later I see reviews of the same albums appearing in metal magazines.

This is the internet... With the promos available a new Primal Fear should be reviewed even before it's released. There are no printing or anything to keep the team from informing the visitors.

And just what was it 'supposed to be', pray tell? I'm rather curious to know, just as I'm wondering why TOS is bringing up points already answered over the course of this thread. I'm sure we'd all agree that the reviewers have slightly better things to do with their time than to inform individual readers when there are more releases of one genre than another reviewed in a week.
