I guess I came across as kinda negative towards The Visitor there but I definitely agree that it was an awesome movie. My point was just that I think that Sean Penn deserved the oscar as much as any of the other nominees because his performance was on the same level as theirs.

I don't think I've heard anyone outright say they liked Benjamin Button... mostly people tend to say "It was long" or "It was interesting." I think that's why I haven't gotten around to seeing it yet.

I need to watch more of Daniel Day Lewis' earlier movies. Only seen TWBB, Gangs of New York, Unbearable Lightness of Being (still need to finish that actually... stopped halfway through), and The Ballad of Jack and Rose, and he's one of my favourite actors. >.>

Daniel Day-Lewis comes close but even then there's similarities between his character in Gangs of New York and Daniel Plainview. Penn did a great job in Milk and deserved the Oscar.

You're comparing two of his most recent movies, both where he portrays a villain. Look at his entire catalog, the guy is brilliant and different in every role.

I haven't seen The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but none of the other performances nominated were significantly better than him. (The only one I'd say might be better is Mickey Rourke's. Richard Jenkins was good in The Visitor but I kinda rolled my eyes when he gave his big dramatic speech in the immigration office.)

Benjamin Button was over hyped and over Hollywooded. The Wrestler deserved more than what it got, and The Visitor was the most overlooked movie of 2008. Richard Jenkins was brilliant, and that scene at the immigration office was brilliant, I got chills, and that doesn't happen very often when I watch movies.

The Wrestler surely deserves more, but Benjamin Button is one of the few modern films where I think the over-Hollywodization worked, and damn well. It is truly epic in proportions and full of meaningful and beautiful messages. Some of the scenes will stay with me for a long long time.
Around the end, when baby boy Benjamin is in Daisy's old arms and they are looking at each other, both of them dying at each side of the life spectra was just magnificent.

I just saw the Wrestler, because everyone here seems to like the movie, but the only thing I liked was the music. This whole wrestling thing is not for me I think.

The movie is not about Wrestling, actually. If you catch my drift.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Decent...maybe the weakest thus far, I dunno, but still okay. Ridiculously cheesy with the romance stuff at times, but now that I think of it, the book was that way too. Emma Watson is very attractive, haha...I wish I was going to Brown with her.

Revolutionary Road. Great film, very nicely portrayed with many little details that meant a big deal.
Kate Winslet is as brilliant as ever. She might be playing sad women alot these days, but it's not what you do, it's how you do it and she delivers.
And of Course, Dicaprio continues to impress and I would actually consider him one of my fav actors these days.

Yeah, Dicaprio is one of those actors where I'll watch something just because he's in it. Haven't seen Revolutionary Road yet though.

Rock N Rolla - Part of me wants to pick apart the ways this failed where Lock Stock/Snatch succeeded but mostly it was a fun movie. The fight scene in the sporting goods store could have been so much more awesome.

Darkon--Documentary about one of those live-action role playing leagues where people pretend like they're in the middle ages, exactly like the one from Role Models, if you've seen that movie. Actually pretty good, very fun and enjoyable...

Indeed. He was pretty decent in the young days but from Gangs of New York and onward it's been nothing but an increasing streak of awesomeness.

Agreed. One of the best performances I've seen by both of them. He really is proving himself to be one of the best. Great movie too.

The Watchmen movie. As predicted, everything about the book was better. Especially the ending, it was just pulled off so much better in the book.

Still, it was pretty badass. Especially that scene in the prison cafeteria.

"I'm not locked up in here with you, you're all locked up in here with me!"

Yeah, Watchmen was cool. I want to see the director's cut with 24 minutes of extra footage. Fucking cool. Also, I just watched Django. Which was awesome.

I'm in the mood for a new horror-film. Anything with zombies is a given hit but just about anything decent in the genre would do right now. Any suggestions?

Watch Suspiria if you haven't yet.

If you mean new like as in 'new' new, then Drag Me to Hell was pretty good.

I would also recommend Cube.

Cheers, I'll grab Suspiria when I find it.

Drag me to Hell has stopped going on the cinemas nearby so I'm waiting for it to "come out" :)

Cube is awesome! I even watched the two sequels, which were no where as good.

I second Suspiria. Not straight horror, but I loves me some Dead Alive, if you haven't seen that. It has zombies! Drag Me To Hell was solid too, yeah.

Suspiria is the best horror film ever made.

(IMO, of course :P )

If you mean good recent releases, have you seen Martyrs, Eden Lake, or [REC]? The last one is a Zombie film.

These are the three recent films I've seen (last couple of years) that have stood out to me, along with an awful lot of crap.

The best Zombie films are the oldies, though :D Can't go wrong with some Fulci! (Actually, you really can. But get Gates of Hell/City of the Living Dead/Zombie Hing Am Glockenseil and you'll have a great time)

I should really get Dead Alive (Braindead), thanks for reminding me.

Martyrs and Eden Lake looks interesting. I have seen both [Rec] and the american version Quarantine and enjoy them both. Great atmosphere.
Some other horror movies I enjoy are Dawn of the Dead (new, have not seen the old version), 28 Days/Weeks Later, Some Masters of Horror episodes, Diary of the Dead, 30 Days of Night, Evil Dead, The Thing, Sunshine, The Hole, all the Saw films and the first Resident Evil. Those are the ones I can remember right now. Not too picky in this genre to be honest, I tend to enjoy most of it.

Will try to track down all the recommendations. Thanks!
