This album kicks ass. Why aren't there more bands out there trying to do their own thing like these guys? I can't wait to get through the rest of it today. It'll definitely be something coming up often on my Winamp or CD player.

Introduced to many via Tûnõ idõ tárlat review, this creation of Tamas Katai was listened to by many of our readers by now, and the mere reference that “something” may sound like Thy Catafalque sends the faithful scouring for that something, only to come back longing for the real deal.

I feel really identified by this paragraph.

Trying to describe Thy Catafalque music verbally is a futile task, I completely realize that. You have to experience it with your own skin, ears and some sixth sense to become a believer.

That's so true, I enjoyed your review a lot.
According to your score, you think that RHR is slightly better than TIT. I don't know yet, to be honest. I can't say which one is better, but I prefer TIT a bit more, but who knows, Thy Catafalque's music always keep developing in you as time passes by. As I already said in other thread, this album will end very high in my overall 2009 list. Really amazing. I don't mind if Katai Tamas takes another five years to release another album, as long is top quality.

I'm glad that you're enjoying this music. I strongly suggest listening to Tuno Ido Tarlat, the second song, Neath Waters is beyond words. And my response to your question would be that most bands play in the safe side, and are afraid to experiment, and when they try to experiment, they fail, almost miserably, because they don't know how to integrate new elements into their music. That's why Thy Catafalque is so awesome.

Alex, when you contact Katai again, give him our regards!

Those numbers ... That is why I never liked numerical quotes. TIT was "evaluated" back when, RHR now. As I said in my review, RHR took longer to get into, but now I am addicted to it. TIT was more immediate, but every time I go back to it, I have to listen to Neath Waters, and the rest is slightly overshadowed. Anyway, two great albums, like you said, and the fans of Thy Catafalque should be delighted. I know I am. I will pass your regards to Tamas.

I respect Tuno ido tarlat but I don't really have any desire to listen to it that often beyond Neath Waters.

Yeah iwabo uses its electronica to be wacky and fun while Thy Catafulque uses it to be artsy and kinda pretentious. When I'm at work, I'm really just not in the mood for 9 min plus long songs with ambient electronica sections.

I understand you better now. It's just that I do not search for fun in Metal, I listen to other genres for musical fun. To each his own, peace.

I never ever got the feeling with Thy Catafalque of being fake and pretentious. Out there, maybe, drifting, for sure. When I'm at work, I absolutely need sometimes songs which take my mind off concrete specific problems, and 9 min plus long songs with ambient electronica are perfect for that. Yet, at the same time I need death metal, to strap the boots, so to speak, often as well. To each his own, of course.

I agree that pretentious is not an adjective for Thy Catafalque's music. And those ambient sections are great to focus on creative work, like graphic design (my field) for example. Nothing beats Mozart to unleash creativity and open your mind though.

As far as composers go, I prefer Beethoven way more.

Tuno... never really captivated me, even though I did give it some good listens (it does kinda trail off after the first three songs) but those two tracks posted earlier look great! Especially the first, what a great combination of experimentation, catchinesss, and straight-up riffing. I'll try to check this out.

Te recomiendo ampliamente su álbum anterior, Tuno Ido Tarlat, una de las mejores piezas musicales que he escuchado. De hecho mejor que el nuevo.
