Religulous

Basically, a documentary by Bill Maher debunking religion. A lot of people here would seriously enjoy it--I thought it was very well done and I'm one of those people who gives religion a chance. He doesn't really deal with the actual existence of God, which is good because that is when things get more debatable. Instead, he focuses on the teachings of the religions themselves--Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Scientology, Mormonism. And, he does a really good job of making all of them look completely ridiculous (the only religion that really holds its own is Roman Catholicism). There are a few parts that are pretty hilarious as well--highly recommended!

It amazes me how immature people in their 50's can actually be. Some of their thought process is just plain idiotic, but at the same time you really feel compassion for them. Their dedication and enthusiasm about their new material makes me want to start my Anvil collection. I need to get their older stuff first though.

Anvil is back, or never went away?

They are touring with 2 other bands, they are not headlining but supporting. I can't remember who the headliner is though...

Before Sunrise - Very ideal and romantic. Some of their conversations were kinda boring but overall quite good.

Kabluey - I liked this but it could have been better. That blue suit was pretty awesome.

Loved it. But Roman Catholicism held its own? The cardinal he interviewed made a mockery out of it himself. The guy who kept saying "whup".

I went to see this with my friend at the cinema and it made him cry, haha. Good film though, although to those uneducated people it is slighty misleading, it makes them out to be bigger than they were, really.

I thought that movie was pretty damn hilarious. Lisa Kudrow pisses me off though.

The Faculty

Teen movie with aliens. More influenced by The Thing than I remember it being. Many familiar faces.

I know a lot of people (both Christian and skeptic) who have seen this movie and had rather mixed opinions of it. Some thought Maher's Jay Leno-ish "street trips" were rude, some found historical errors in what he was discussing, etc. While others found the movie to be very funny and informative. I even know some fellow-Catholics who liked it. It should probably also be mentioned, for clarity, that Maher's an agnostic. Not an atheist (he himself has public denied the "atheist" label many times and even somewhat denounced the "religion" in one interview). Actually Heatseeker, based on one of your old posts, I got the impression that you were a theist. But correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, I saw Die Hard last night. I freaking love this movie, and I'll definitely be buying it on DVD in the future. Bruce Willis is da man! :dio:

I've heard enough bad things about Religulous to not be looking forwards to it. Clips I've seen don't look funny at all compared to a hotpant-wearing Bruno being chased by Orthodox Jews.

Difference is that Baron Cohen now is being threatened by the Al Aqsa brigades :P

Just watched Valkyrie last night, wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Maybe I was hoping for too much Nazi killing or something.
Inglorious Bastards looks great though, you can bet your ass I'll be in the theater on opening day.

Well, that's pretty awesome. Clearly terrorists have no sense of humour, everyone would love them if they released a statement going 'lol, you got us!'

And yes, Valkyrie was pretty poor. Tom Cruise should stick to what he does best... erm.

Sure it's offensive, but why should religion be granted more respect than anything else?

Amen. If there's one film I'm looking forward to it's this.

Precisely.
And Bill sums up a few things in this interview. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHH2JItePlc

I am a theist (most of the time, sometimes lean toward agnostic) but I don't believe in organized religion, so I could appreciate the film nonetheless.

And Goat, what did you hear that was bad about it? I liked Religulous a lot more than Bruno...I might go so far as to say it was just as funny as Bruno.

Religululous? He's not funny, he speaks to obvious idiots, he repeats the sort of stuff that was old when Dawkins and Hitchens were saying it, and apparently in a couple of scenes he doesn't have the balls to respond to people to their face, but waits until he's back with his posse. Or so I heard.
