Oh yes, and the totally overrated shit: Stella (yes, it is), Heineken, any famous German export.

Stella is overrated but it's still beter than most Belgian lagers.

I find the likes of Crystal and Bel vastly superior, much more of a malty flavour to it. The brewing process is more artisanal as well.

My favourite Canadian beer is Moosehead Lager, followed by Alexander Keith's Pale Ale. Montreal also has a nice microbrewery that makes Bierbrier, a darker beer which I also enjoy.

But on my European sex odyssey a few months back, I enjoyed Guiness for the first time (I had never warmed up to it before), and since then it's become my beer of choice. So very awesome.

Never liked Heineken- Stella is all right. If I'm being cheap, I'll drink Labatt Bleu.

I also made an effort to try to find a warm ale I'd enjoy in Britain a few months back, but it's just not for me.

And some randoms I like both local and international: Rickards/Sleemans Honey Brown, Pumphouse Blueberry, Old Style Pilsner, Zywiec Pilsner, McEwan's Scotch Ale... All I can think of off the top of my head, Don't really drink much beer. Though the company I work for throws a huge festival every year and for 40 bucks you go over for 3 hours and try over 120 different kinds of beer. Sucks I can't go this year.

Ahh, another Canadian! Keith's is the shit, though I still gotta go for Moosehead over it.

Aha, my second favourite topic in all the world: beer! :D

My Canadian favourites are mostly from microbreweries and such. One of my big favourites used to be Iron Duke *points at username* from Wellington brewery, which I still find good but have since found better. I also really love Maudite and La Fin du Monde from unibroue. Amsterdam is of course awesome as well. Eric's Red and Honey Brown from Quidi Vidi (damn, ze newfs make good beer!) and goddamn if I've forgotten that one for Waterloo...called Warthog or something like that...some Ontarians help me out here, goddamnit :P

As for other beers, Bavarian beers are my faves...particularly Mönchshof Bockbier and Schwarzbier. Löwenbräu Triumphator and dunkles.

And of course the guinness...who can forget it :dio:

Everyone I've spoken to who's had Guinness outside of Ireland and then in Ireland knows the difference, it really doesn't travel so well. King of beers for sure, although I drink it fairly rarely these days as I tend to stick to bottled ales; you get some excellent ones in England, being awesome like we are, ranging from the fruity god that is Bombardier to the likes of Fursty Ferret, smooth and delicious. I'm slightly common in that I like canned bitters too; John Smith's is nice, as is Greene King IPA which I'm nursing a pint of right this second.

The trouble is with this thread that I've not heard of/tasted most of yon Canadian beers, so there's ultimately not a great deal to discuss. Anyone that likes Stella, however, can GTFO. Disgusting weak piss it is. Budweiser >>>>.

Every day when I was doing construction, in the summer, the two other dudes I worked with and myself would split an ice cold six-pack of Budweiser, and it hit the spot. The trick is being dog tired and hot (laying cement in the middle of July is hard work) and the Bud being ice cold, so yeah, though i can't stand Coors, MGD, or any of that other bullshit, the taste of ice cold Bud has good connotations for me.

It's the first beer my father would ever let me drink, back in the day. He has allergies now so can't have it anymore, but yeah, memories...

Although I already admitted that Stella is hugely overrated, I feel obliged to react. What's wrong that it isn't a strong or heavy beer? Personally, I don't give a rats ass if a beer is 5,6% of 11,8% or whatever. It isn't bad in taste IMO, but I assume that's your biggest problem with Stella. Different people, different taste, so I won't get too butthurt over this. I must admit: Belgian lagers suck overall compared to the ones from other countries. No biggie although, a lot of people here would (wrongfully I admit) claim that Stella is one of the finest beers ever. That's what you get when a Brewery like the one that produces Stella gets huge.

This being said: I don't care for Guiness too much, I don't know why but it really isn't my thing. Beer in general has gotten a little boring to me since a couple of years. Probably overdid it while in my *coughs* wilder years.

I wonder how many of you are into the heavier, more flavoured beers. For me, finding a new, exciting and original flavoured beer is simply great and enjoying it with a good meal is just divine.

I'm not old enough to buy my own, so I just drink whatever's available.

My dad usually buys Becks, and my brother buys all sorts of different kinds. I've really liked the Belgian brands I've tried.

American beer is (usually) piss in a bottle. Budwieser in intolerable. Although I have tried some kind of flavored Sam Adams, and I liked it a bunch.

After three weeks of being bombarded by Berliner Pilsner (yuck), Berliner Kindl (slightly less yuck) and Becks, I can't taste it anymore. Fucking horrible beer, as far as German stuff goes.

A lot of people seem to like Franziskaner though, shame I hate Weizenbier.

If you're ever in London, go to the Maple Leaf pub near Strand street (around Trafalgar's Square)- you can try some Canadian beers there, though the prices there are admittedly a bit high. Still, you can get Mooseheads, Keiths and Sleemans there... and watch hockey! Pretty necessary for any bar.

Yeah, the Nu Scotland thing next to my location is really just Nova Scotia.. I live maybe 5 minutes from the Kieth's brewery which is awesome. And as for moosehead. I've had the Moose green, dry ice and Premium Dry and the one I like the most is Premium Dry... the Dry Ice is the cheap shit for the bums I serve at the NSLC although it is good to get a good buzz off. And the Moose Green (Lager) I do like as well, but it's no Kieth's :P

Haha, we used to have a saying in college, "There's only one thing worse than Hamm's...warm Hamm's".

I don't usually drink beer to get drunk since I can't burp, but when I'm just relaxing and kicking back I few its usually one of the following:

Bass
Coors Original
Sam Adams (generally the seasonal stuff, especially Octoberfest)
Michelob
Killian's
Becks

Stay away from big groups beer. Support the small local breweries.

Indeed, I've heard that as well though I've never been to Ireland myself. I've even noticed a huge difference between the Guinness sold in Canada and that sold in Germany...for some reason it tastes quite horrible in Germany. Maybe they are trying to deter people from drinking it instead of German beers.

Indeed, plus I can imagine those non-Canadians that have tasted Canadian beer have only tasted beer from the larger breweries like Molson, Labatt, Keiths etc. which honestly aren't the best Canada has to offer. Its definitely best to go with microbreweries in Canada (and I can imagine in the States too), which of course you guys from across the sea don't have much of a chance to sample. Personally, I'm not a big fan of pilsners and light lagers so the big breweries over here really don't do it for me.

Really never been a fan of Belgian beers as whole, actually.

I'm pretty big on wheat beers, especially the dark wheat beers. Franziskaner is pretty decent, but apparently there is actually not much difference between it, Paulaner and Augustiner.

Are you serious? Have you ever tried the decent beers and not the so-called 'Belgian' exports? The fantastic variety of abbey breweries we have, that's the real deal.

Belgian is the only way to go. If I had enough money, that would be all I drink ($$$$$).

Ummm for Aussie beers, even though they advertise as the aussie beer overseas no one ever drinks Fosters. VB and XXXX also suck.

Tooheys make some ok beers, their Pilsener is nice.

Personally I like the two big Japanese beers quite a lot (Asahi and Kirin).

Do other countries have this huge push toward 'blonde' beers (That is low carb beers)?

Oh and I only drink beer these days because I have given up on drinking coke with spirits.

Yeah, lol, it always shits me how fosters is famous (thanks, crocodile dundee!)

It is literally the worst australian beer. And like you said, XXXX and VB aren't far behind.

When it comes to big breweries here in Oz, you have to go with James Squire. Their Golden Ale and Amber Ale are both delicious.

Then you've got Coopers who make a delicious Pale Ale, but only 4.5% alcohol.
Then they make an ok Sparkling Ale. Its a bit too bitter, but it's 5.7% alcohol. Doesn't sound like a huge difference, but across 6 or 7 beers, you will get DRUNKER. And we all know that's important!

Outside of those two big breweries, the key is finding the tiny little rural breweries.

The places that dont even sell to shops, let alone export.

Man you can find some of the finest nectar of the gods ever brewed at some of those places. There's one called Red Hill brewery, sometimes i drive 2 hours just to get a couple cases from them.
