The review score seems way too high judging from what you're all saying.

Dude, it's twenty long years since those two albums.

Slayer should have went back 20 years to what they did best before they jumped the shark with Divine Intervention. Seasons In The Abyss will always be my favorite Slayer album with Reign In Blood and South of Heaven a close second. Show No Mercy after that.

You missed my point. Araya can't emulate the vocals he did twenty years ago because his voice is ruined.

Ok, I can understand what you were trying to say. But I would think he could still sing with some melody as opposed to full on shouting vocals.

Well gee, you tour the world for nearly three decades in one of the worlds most popular thrash bands sing your heart out, release your 11th full length album and then say your voice wouldn't be ruined. Even at Slayer's worst they still had good songs which is more then I can say for Metallica and Anthrax

Slayer's worst < Metallica and Anthrax's best. Which should be pretty obvious to anyone with a brain.

I was speaking in defense of Araya's voice, I was wondering whether to consider an album of covers a full length though?
hmm...

*counts to ten*

Are you denying that Rust In Peace is better than Diabolus In Musica, or are you saying that that fact is so obvious that only a brainless fool would deny it?

If you don't like their music anymore, then go buy something else it's simple as that.

I think it's not fair to compare Slayer (or Kreator or Destruction etc) with Metallica or Megadeth or Anthrax, because they are sure Thrash Metal, but totally different kind of.

Blanket statement: if you think that Diabolus In Musica is better than Peace Sells, Spreading The Disease or Master Of Puppets, then you're an idiot.

I don't think this album is deserving either extreme hate or extreme praise. It is better than I expected - musically they are as tight as ever - but vocally they are starting to slip and creatively they have settled into an equilibrium several notches below their glory days.

Considering their best stuff is 100/100 I would have a hard time putting this one below 80, although the review score is completely reasonable.

Different kind of thrash didn't think there was different kinds of thrash to begin with.

I just don't understand, by listening to this, how Slayer takes 2-3 years to make a new CD of such material. What do they do in that time frame other than applying for AARP memberships?

Yes, when Venom began, there was only Venom, and then e.g. Show No Mercy is very similar to Kill em All (the music, not the content), but Hell Awaits and Ride The Lightning showed much differences. So was the "german" thrash from Sodom, Destruction and Kreator much more like Slayer or Exodus, while others like Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth or Testament were much more melodic, while Slayer (and others) were more brutal and extreme. Slayer never had that NWOBHM influence like Metallica. They had more hardcore punk. And so it is today, when Metallica or Megadeth getting slow, it's much more melodic like when Slayer or Sodom or Kreator make slow songs.
