Zad, the review is very fair as is the grade. Slayer has certainly settled to serve up an average product. Why? Who knows. Perhaps they're happy to admit that at this point they are who they are, this is how they sound, and they're comfortable with that. The overall production is expected, the guitar tone is dreadful, the guitar solos (and I'm being generous by using the word 'solo') represent some of the worst guitar playing I've ever heard, the drums sound like they recorded them with a boombox on cassette tape, and the vocals are nothing more than screaming rants. Which in the end gives you a very forgettable album.

I realize that early in their career they created some ground breaking material but since then they've failed to impress me. This is another Slayer release that I listen to once, identify that it's Slayer, *yawn*....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

This is the best damn Slayer album since Reign in Blood, which was not so much different. Compare Criminally Insane with Public Display of Dismemberment or Unit 731 or Snuff with Epidemic or Necrophobic.

Most of the songs are fast as hell and nothing is more important for an Slayer album.

And that's a good thing... because? Slayer have been repeating themselves for so long that people are finally getting tired of it. Interesting that I scored it higher than a lot of people here would have done; it's not actually bad in my view, just nothing beyond solid.

And RIP is a (very) good album but it doesn't compare with anything Slayer has released plus, it is NOT thrash metal.
