What?
I think it's their best album since Vitalogy.
.

its shit and best since vitalogy isnt much of an accomplishment for them becuase they've been releasing a lot of filler with a few good songs on most of those albums. Pearl Jam is one of my favourite bands but they've sold out. the only good song on that album is the end.
Then i see what AiC comes out with that blows them out of the water missing a band member (RIP Layne) Black gives way to blue Suprise of the year positive and Back spacer supriseof the year negitive :P

Pearl Jam clearly isn't one of your favorite bands or you don't like music much. I think they released a sting of average albums from Binaural to Avocado but the rest is pretty great.

you must having hearing disabilities from no code to backspacer i couldn't find 11 songs to make a CD better than Ten and backspacer is the worst out of all of them.
the only good thing they've done in those years is /03 live at the garden which is an amazing effort for a live show that amazes every listen, the solo on even flow is amazing

listen to this : PEARL JAM IS ON A DOWNWARD SLIDE, THEY CAN'T COMPETE WITH THEIR EARLY WORK BY RELEASING THIS BULL SHIT FOR THE RADIO

Lawl. And grunge, back then, wasn't 'bullshit' for the radio?

 White men have been singing about that for years.

It proves nothing. PJ have made plenty of great songs post-No Code, and that you can't find any on Backspacer says more about your crappy hearing than the band, since it's full of them.

I really haven't had any album (that I was looking forward to) really disappoint me this year. Some were average but I still found enough redeeming value to keep my interest and not pronounce anything a total steaming pile of shit.

OK, I can think of one. Primal Fear's '16.6 (Before The Devil Knows You're Dead)'.

It proves that you don't like PJ as much as you pretend you do.
Basically, you love Ten and that's about all.
I think Ten is quite overrated and hasn't aged well by the way. :P

Huh?
My point was that he didn't really like PJ... I was the one defending the overall quality of their work and Backspace in particular...
I realize that you don't what I posted but it's no reason to read my posts wrong...

I really like pearl jam backspacer is horrible and most of their other albums are saved from being absolutely torn up by a song or two
come on do people honestly think "the fixer" is so good that it needs to be played on the radio 10 times a day?

Did I say Ten wasn't PJ's best? No. But their albums afterwards are still full of great stuff.

what i'm saying is most of pearl jam's albums after Ten are solid to good (70-85 considering ten classic) but backspacer is the worst yet(65) and its pathetic when pearl jam can release B sides from Ten that are btter than a new album when those B sides aren't that great. I'm also saying since Vitology they've been getting progressivley and couldn't pull 11 songs from their discography past vitology to make a better CD then Ten. To close when readers look at this site they'll see Backspacer as just a little worse than dirt. theres something wrong there.

Well clearly we disagree in our opinions of Backspacer.

I guess i don't want to troll or start stuff so we should just leave it as is. maybe better for another topic but why'd you score BGWtB, facelift and dirt so low? just not a AiC fan?

Well, I gave Dirt an 87, which is a pretty good score, and didn't think the others were as good, marking as appropriate. Facelift especially I find overrated. I didn't score them THAT different from the other reviewers, though.

Each to his own. Hopefully I wrote about the articles in question with enough wit and verve to enable the mollification of petitioners alarmed at the said pieces of art lacking la status classique.

If ten isn't reviewed it should be a classic.
