Now, Diabolical is most certainly not an album of the decade. Jeez.

Exactly. And a whole slew of obviously mediocre albums, such as Now, Diabolical, Lemuria/Sirius B, Chimera, Those Once Loyal, etc. Seems like some people are demonstrating how good their memory is, rather than actually trying to discuss what the single best album + runner ups of the decade are.

Albums of the decade doesn't mean a big list of all the albums of the years, after all. It's the albums so good that they only come along once a decade - putting say, N,D on there when the albums before and after were better misses the point by miles.

Iron Maiden - Brave New World
Blind Guardian - A Night At the Opera
Devin Townsend – Terria
Equilibrium – Sagas
Coheed & Cambria - In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth
Angra - Temple of Shadows
Sonata Arctica – Silence
Elvenking – Heathenreel
Windir – 1184
Windir - Likferd

Threw this one together. I know I am including some I shouldn't be, and am forgetting some that should be... I still listen to these frequently and with the same amount of pleasure as when I first heard them.

The title of the thread is "best metal albums of the decade." I took this to mean you were supposed to list the albums that you thought really stood out between 2000 and 2009.

If we are talking about single best album, it seems several of us have listed Brave New World. I'd have a hard time saying that is the absolute best of the decade, but it surely is one of the top 15-20.

Dude you posted Amon Amarth and Mastodon, you have nothing to brag about.

Yeah really. I don't give a shit what anyone thinks, Lemuria/Sirius B has been in my playlist since it came out back in 2004 and is one of my favorite albums of all time, hence me listing it as one of the best albums of the decade. Same goes with what other people listed. I don't agree with a ton of albums listed here either but I won't question them because each album does something different for everyone.

Mastodon is one of the bands of the decade, like it or not. And Amon Amarth, while they've since turned to self-repetition, were instrumental in getting the ball rolling both for the melodeath fad of a few years back and the current folk metal fad.

I was under the impression that this thread was about everyone's personal top albums of the decade, I could be wrong. If it is than Mastodon's popularity certainly has nothing to do with whether they actually wrote a good album or not, based on what you said I could say Dragonforce has a couple albums of the decade.

I don't enjoy mastodon.

They aren't one of the bands of the decade. Fuck off.

Cynic - Traced in Air is, imo, the album of the decade.

These, from the top of my head, are mandatory:

Candlemass - Death Doom Magic
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Reverend bizarre - III: So Long Suckers
Bob Catley - When empires burn
Avantasia - Metal opera I&II
Ayreon - Human Equation.
Solstafir - Khold
Coheed & Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
Slough Feg - Down Among the Deadmen/Atavism
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Drudkh - The Swan Road

It is good indeed but, seriously I'm curious what you guys find in that album that I don't.

My problem with the lists is that each year where I've heard enough albums has four or five albums that are my favourites and just as good as anything else released ever. I don't think there are any albums so much better than anything else they only come along once a decade.

As far as influence or whatever goes I'd say Opeth and Mastodon are the bands of the decade.

Word, when i started doing the list i soon realized that there were four Slough Feg albums, three Grand Magus, three Reverend Bizarre, three Iron Maiden albums and one excellent Judas Priest album and then i said fuck it, sure now that i look back i could probably shave two or three albums from my list but whats the point? i found all of them incredible.

Mastodon is one of the crappiest bands of the decade and Amon Amarth are the Dragonforce of Death Metal, but you know what? if those are your personal choices thats ok with me, we all have different tastes anyway, i just find it funny that even with your limited knowledge of metal you could still be so arrogant.
