This is sure to draw a lot of fierce debate. So, my question is, which band can be credited with the most epic fall from grace? Here are the contenders.

Metallica
Nocturnal Rites
Helloween
Anthrax
Slayer
Ozzy Osborne

There are some on here that people would no doubt disagree with, but for the sake of argument I included most of the bands that I thought began great but slowly, or quickly, depending on your point of view, deteriorated into absolute shit.

My vote goes to Nocturnal Rites just because they are my favorite band out of the list. Their first 2 1/2 albums are wonderful. Afterlife was alright, and then anything after that was the most horrible shit I've ever heard.

Helloween would come next as I despise just about anything Andi Deris sings on.

Metallica/Slayer/ Anthrax come next because I never felt any of these bands were anything to write home about.

Ozzy comes last just because I care about him the least.

Megadeth didnt make the list because I don't feel that they are important enough to talk about.

No doubt people will disagree with my assesment, but just thought it would make for an interesting debate.

That Doom-death band that went pop-punk, that was pretty

Goddamnit. This is like the thrash metal band Mordred going funk.

In Flames. After a few albums of the same sound a band's bound to get jaded with themselves -- but they went a little too far, in my humble opinion. That, or the call of the mainstream was too tempting to pass up.

I can't think of any other band to be honest; all the ones you listed took some pretty hard dives into the shitter.

Sepultura comes to mind.
From Schizophrenia, BTR and Arise to Roots, Against, Nation, etc...?!?

Yes most of their newer albums are currently residing in the used bin in record stores across the world.

haha, I reckon that's a fairly accurate assessment.
Another band, though I hate to say it:

Venom.

Four words: Calm Before the Storm...

Celtic Frost have had a rollercoaster of a career. To Mega Therion -> Into The Pandemonium -> Cold Lake -> Vanity/Nemesis -> Monotheist.

By the by, mind if I move this to General, Holy T? It isn't specifically Power Metal...

Edguy
Primal Fear
Children Of Bodom
Korpiklaani
Sonata Arctica

And Helloween hasn't taken a nosedive YET. Their last three albums have been some of my favorite PM records of the decade. But that's just my opinion.

Now, the upcoming "Acoustic" album... that may very well destroy the band.

Not at all. I put it in this section mainly because the bands I chose were either traditional or power metal, but since the scope has broadened I see no reason why it shouldnt be moved.

I can't believe nobody mentioned Cryptopsy yet, easily the biggest fall from grace in death metal history, very few bands have managed to turn pretty much their entire fan base against themselves because of a single album, i am of course talking about The Unspoken King. Probably one of the lamest death metal albums i have ever heard, weak songwriting and weaker vocals, what do you guys think?

Agreed completely. The gap between Once Was Not and Unspoken King is miles wide...

I think there's a reason why people have neglected to mention it: it's too painful to talk about.

I just realized the album before The Unspeakable King was Once Was Not. HOW THE FUCK DO YOU DO THAT? IT HAS TO BE FUCKING INTENTIONAL TO SUCK THAT BADLY, RIGHT? wowsers. all caps never been so necessary.

ummm @ thread topic: Chris Barnes. That guy went from classic CC to utterly trite shitty DM.
