Hmm, that would explain Ozzy Osborne's unexplained continued fame.

I can't believe nobody mentioned Cryptopsy yet, easily the biggest fall from grace in death metal history, very few bands have managed to turn pretty much their entire fan base against themselves because of a single album, i am of course talking about The Unspoken King. Probably one of the lamest death metal albums i have ever heard, weak songwriting and weaker vocals, what do you guys think?

agreed. Cryptopsy is now the gayest band on the planet.

haven't listened to once was not in a long time though, gonna listen to it again.

all the other bands mentioned. Got older wanted to play different music, none of it sucks. Cryptopsy's shit however is just lame.

Not only did Cryptopsy alienate their entire fanbase with TUK, they also insulted them numerous times basically saying stupid shit like "You all just don't understand how good we are now!"

They put out some of the best Death Metal ever in their day, but fuck them.

Sentenced's last album was a huge nosedive..
Exodus also pulled a huge flatline when they rerecorded Bonded by Blood. Not so much because of the lack of Baloff, but because it was a totally useless thing to do.
I really don't think any band can beat Cryptopsy's fall from grace though...

Biomechanical took a big nosedive. From Empires of the World to Cannibalized, which sucked or maybe I'm just in the minority that doesn't like that album.

Elvenking embarrassed themselves with The Scythe and although the acoustic was ok I doubt the fans will forget it soon.

+1 on Korpiklaani. They've been getting worse since Tales Along This Road.

Lies. How The World Came to an End is a fantastic album, regardless of whether it's metal or not.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with this. I found that album to be quite enjoyable. Then again, I haven't heard their material prior to it, so...

I like it too. But I don't like Vilosophe one bit. That was the epic nosedive for me.

Steel Attack, man that was an epic nose dive as well. One good album, and then an unheralded amount of shit. At least the debut was so good that I can forgive/ignore the rest.

i dont know there was this metal band that made a pretty good death metal album called none so vile in 1995 then got a new vocalist, changed directions a little bit, wasnt the best, wasn't the worst, then got the same vocalist back, made another pretty good album called once was not, then got another new vocalist and decided to take a shit on their fans and tell their fans how much they suck when they start playing metalcore 6 years late.

cryptopsy or something like that

Oh, yeah, that's what it was. I was thinking about this other band, but then I remembered there's no band in the history of music that has ever shown such sudden suckage as Cryptopsy.

I would so much prefer that to what they did with The Unspoken King.

I know but I still don't totally agree with the completely "gone deathcore" assumption. I think they had the intentions of a deathcore sound but The Unspoken King was a genuine attempt at experimenting. The problem was the end result was quite possibly the most horrid album in metal history.

Wow, you guys are pretty broken up about this Cryptopsy thing. I have similar feelings about Helloween and Nocturnal Rites. Man, Nocturnal Rites' meteoric descent into shit-dom has got to be the most heartbreaking aspect of heavy metal for me.

I hope Nils Nordberg runs into Anders Zackrisson on the street one day and they decide to form a band.
