Well, of course. The ecosocialism of said parties does pave the way for communism.

Anyone serious about ecosocialism would not want to "pave the way" for anything, I'll have you know.

Oooh oooh oooh!

I nearly embarrassed myself there by asking if Zad listens to Counting Crows when in fact theirs is a cover of the original Joni Mitchell. Close one.

"The document also sets unequal limits on per capita carbon emissions for developed and developing countries in 2050; meaning that people in rich countries would be permitted to emit nearly twice as much under the proposals.

The so-called Danish text, a secret draft agreement worked on by a group of individuals known as "the circle of commitment" – but understood to include the UK, US and Denmark – has only been shown to a handful of countries since it was finalised this week. The draft hands effective control of climate change finance to the World Bank; would abandon the Kyoto protocol – the only legally binding treaty that the world has on emissions reductions; and would make any money to help poor countries adapt to climate change dependent on them taking a range of actions."

oh good

I think once we get past all of the baseless partisan arguments and the pointless documentaries we have a legitimate problem of pollution and not necessarily climate change. I personally think we aren't taking into consideration natural cycles, Solar phenomenon, and other non human effects. This doesn't justify cutting down thousands of square miles of Amazonian rainforest, or dumping chemical waste in ground and natural water reservoirs. But pollution is a problem and we're only fucking ourselves by continuing destruction/overuse of our planet's resources.

FUCK FUCK FUCK no to the world bank. Oh god no.

Greenhouse gases are what keeps sun rays in our atmosphere which heats the earth. The moon lacks greenhouse gases therefore is cold. Industrialization has increased the amount of greenhouse gases exponentially. Therefore, more greenhouse gases will mean more heat trapped into our atmosphere.

Am I doing it wrong?

Al Gore knows his shit though. He can pull some pretty awesome rhetoric out of his ass, something I would've never foresaw.

Nuclear power honestly might be the answer. Sadly enough.

I tend to take Bjorn Lomberg's tack. Accept that humanity as a whole will not change its ways anytime soon (everyone is guilty BTW), that climate change is coming, but do meaningful things to mitigate it and ultimately overcome it.

Namely, improve agriculture in 3rd world countries, build levees, buy malaria nets, etc. Concentrate on funding research to come up with ways to reduce carbon through technology. When most of the world currently lives in poverty WITHOUT climate change .. how could anyone think reducing carbon emissions is the way to improve the lot of the majority of the world's citizens?

At least, it sounds better than waving your arms in the air and saying we MUST reduce this, we MUST reduce that without any plan or recognition of what really drives climate change: that humans are parasitic consumers who aren't wired to care about things far in the future or far away. And always will be.

People don't care about the Global South now. Why do you think more drought will make any difference? You'll always have that conservative backlash of "we shouldn't be helping them; they need to help themselves" despite the chaos caused by Western powers throughout the region.

Did the parasitic consumption begin around the Industrial Revolution or has it always been around in your opinion?

I think the number of species that have been hunted to extinction speaks for itself. IMO industrial technology has just made it easier for our natural tendencies to impact the earth.

Oh, by the way: Thank you, Canada, for reneging on your Kyoto agreement. :lame:

Thank you Switzerland, for showing us the way by having a small land mass, no natural resources and low population. We should all be so lucky.

HEY!

That's not the issue. The Canadian decision to give Kyoto the finger basically undermined the entire concept of pledging to reduce emissions. Not cool.
