I've listened to this about 4 times, and it's very difficult to get into, as it sounds bland and lacks melody compared to "Color" which I loved.

definitely a let down for me my rating 68/100

Wow, lower score than I thought.

I would rate this much higher. It doesn't stand up to Colors, and I was a little let down at first, but damn, it's a great album. It does seem a bit lacking in terms of direction here and there("The Great Misdirect" indeed, d'ohoho), but every song on here is a killer. It took me quite a few listens to dig down into the little details that make this album brilliant. It would get at least a 90 from me.

I want to say I'm in the same boat but I also take Legacy's point that this album will surely get better over time and listens. Too bad, there is just too much more interesting and powerful stuff out there right now.

I'm not surprised, Colors was immense and it would have been very difficult to follow up. Then again I checked out all the BTBAM albums, and they're not all awesome, for example, I find Alaska to be overrated.

I liked this a lot when I was listening to it but now that I think about it I haven't listened to it much since the week it leaked. Too much stuff coming out lately. Tommy's clean vocals are a lot better and now I'd say stuff like "Mirrored", "Desert of Song" and the middle part of "Disease Injury Madness" is scary good. Everything from about two minutes on in that song is really awesome actually. I should definitely listen to this more.

The whole floaty atmospheric part on "Disease, Injury, Madness" is a huge contender for my favorite part on that album.

I should really check this out. I really loved Colors, even though after a loooot of listens a few songwriting quirks started to bug me a little--namely, the way that after a crescendo-building part, they sometimes go back to atonal riffing which pretty much kills all the energy they had going. Can't be bothered to go and cite a specific example but it happens more than a couple times on Colors. From the comments on this, it doesn't seem like they've fixed that little problem, but for me the good outweighs the bad so yeah, i should listen to this.

I think I know what you mean and it still happens on The Great Misdirect.

I have no idea what you mean, sadly. Specific examples would help.

On a side note, I love this band for releasing Colors, because it's one of my favorite albums ever, but it kinda sucks for them in the long run, because I can see a future in which every album they release will get the same reaction of: "Well, it's good, but not as good as Colors."

Am I the only one who thinks this band is astronomically overrated?

No, I mean overrated as in nothing special. They're basically just Dream Theater for kids who hate Dream Theater. A metalcore band that wears pretentious clothing. Another fault of theirs lies right in your name, Noodles -- and this is coming from someone who can easily sit through Six Degress Of Inner Turbulance. Both discs.

There's a Dream Theater influence on their last two or three albums but there's also pretty extreme and obvious differences between the two bands, like one is a metalcore band with growling 80% of the time and the other is not.
