I don't mind that metalcore bands are bringing Prog influences in, far from it; Burst are/were an amazing group. I'd just rather listen to King Crimson and Rush and so on, and touting BTBAM as something amazing just seems to ignore a lot of musical history. If it's people getting into it now and using it as a springboard, great.

Well by that logic you can't really call any band amazing they all have influences. :\

WAT

I'm sorry, but that's just a really really stupid thing to say, because touting King Crimson and Rush as something amazing just seems to ignore a lot of musical history. If it's getting people into B.B. King and Miles Davis now and using King Crimson and Rush as a springboard, great.

Also, BTBAM are one of the best bands of the decade, fuck the haters.

 Yes, that was rather snobbish of me, wasn't it? I don't think you can put BTBAM on the same level as those others, but eh, each to his own.

Somehow I don't think you're in touch with reality.

You're just jealous of their mad guitar skillz. It's okay, everyone is.

The riffs sound too samey through the whole disc, so even though it they may be technical, I can't say the imagination is at a high level.

I'm jealous of David Gilmour and Robert Fripp, who actually put feeling in their 'mad guitar skillz', whereas BTBAM sounds like a robot jacking off.

It's obvious you don't know what you're talking about. "Selkies," "Prequel To The Sequel," "White Walls," "Disease, Injury, Madness," "Swim To The Moon"

???

You haven't heard any of these, and you're just saying shit to be "controversial" and "cool," because BTBAM is generally well recieved.

Wrong. I've listened to both White Walls and Selkies on Youtube, never of which moved me.

Now Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb and King Crimson's Fallen Angel... those are moving songs, and will be fondly remembered for decades to come. BTBAM, once the hype has subsided, will more than likely fall to obscurity.

I got this in the mail the other day and after a few spins I am extremely pleased. It isn't as good as 'Colors' but that could be because I'm still playing it on a regular basis. I also have to agree with their musicianship. Great band.

I'm pretty jealous of the dudes from BTBAM. They don't really have their own style but they seem to be able to do pretty much anything they want, including more textured emotional stuff like the solo in Ants of the Sky during the "sleep on shine on" part. And I'd agree with Legacy that a lot of their shredding stuff on Colors makes me want to jump around with happiness. The end of the guitar solo in Obfuscation also has one of the cooler uses of ultra fast shredding I've heard (6:35ish). Dissonant and tasty and absolutely perfect for that part. Slower more melodic solos are great and I probably even like them more, but they wouldn't fit in with 90% of the stuff BTBAM do.

Granted, should probably have put MOST in my other post. All those bands are quite different than most metalcore though, and doesn't cover the fact that most metalcore sucks incredibly hard. oh and I'll put in this: IMOIMOIMOIMOIMOIMOIMOIMOIMOIMOIMOIMOIMO so no-one will cry about it.

BTBAM fans think they're a lot fucking "different than most metalcore". And as for Norma Jean, don't try to defend that shit.

BTBAM are a great band, I don't know how anyone can listen to Colors and not be blown away by it.

I hate how people say you can't shred and have feeling at the same time, with artists like Steve Vai, Dark Moor, early Bodom and Wintersun easily being evidence to the contrary. There are plenty of others but specific examples escape me.

Also as for metalcore, most of it is generic and boring, but there are exceptions, like the eponymous Chimaira and Lamb of God. Actually I heard Sacrament again a few months ago. Still killer. In any case BTBAM are far from standard metalcore.

Which is something I never said. And I happen to like Steve Vai as well, thank you very much.
