I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for more than 2 years now. The O of Opeth, I think most of you probably now how it looks like.

But I have a question for you guys. Although I've been thinking about this for more than 2 years, I do feel that I'm not completely ready yet. At least I think so. So I was wondering how you knew that you were ready. What made you say "Alright, I'm going to do this now and I will not regret it, not now, not ever."

It's not that I have the feeling I'm going to regret it. But I'm not quite sure I won't either. Believe me, the tattoo has much more meaning to me than "just the O of Opeth", so it's not that.

I hope what I said made some sense. And I know that it may not be the easiest question to answer, as I can imagine that the answer can be quite personal. But I would appreciate it if at least someone tried. Thanks in advance, guys!

I wouldn't recommend doing something band-related. Imagine those who got a Metallica-tattoo back in the eighties, just to be shat on in the 00's.

As for the being ready thing, my first two were very spontaneous but still represented what may be the most important thing for me. Namely courage. My last one, which you can see a couple of posts earlier, was the one I intended to get first, and is by far the most deliberate.

I know a band-related tattoo is kind of risky, but I don't want it just because I love Opeth. There's a lot of meaning to it. Damn, I could write an entire essay about it. It does represent something that is incredibly important to me, trust me.
Thanks for the reply and nice tattoos btw.

Getting tattoos of ppl's faces seems like a bad idea.

That is possibly the only thing that could have made that more awesome, tattooed dribble.

I don't like tattoo's on guys myself, nor on girls when they have like 40. My gf has one on her thigh though and I love it

I can't think of anything worse than getting a bad tattoo, because that shit'll stay on you forever (unless you get expensive tattoo removal).

I would really only consider the possibility of getting a tattoo if/when I have the means to pay top dollar for a reputable, expert tattoo artist, and only then... I'd still need to figure out what I want.

That, exactly. My father went to a laser tattoo removal place, for some reason, and whilst it made the tattoo blurry, it didn't remove it... any symbol I want to decorate myself with is just as effective in ballpoint pen. The whole getting a tattoo-thing has been turned into some mystical bollocks, which it isn't - at the moment, if I was being physically forced to get a tattoo it would be either the Napalm Death or Rush logo, and why on earth would I want those when everyone who meets me soon knows of my love for those bands?

Good tattoo artists can incorporate existing tattoos into something different (usually bigger) if it's shit. Shouldn't be a problem, I've seen some really amazing fixes.
