wttttfff this album is awesome. There is some hardcore (and I don't mean the genre) experimentation on display here and its all the better for it imo. Its as if Ihsahn has let go of his Emperor chains and decided to take his own musical journey and its pretty fuckin wild. Zad once again I don't think your scores do justice to this mans work. An 89 is nowhere near high enough for this album, its ridiculously good :dio:.

I agree. I also agree that the "angL" review was to harsh. Ihsahn is easily my favorite guitarist (besides Paul Masvidal). He is a musical genius. I can only wish that I can play guitar like him. 2010 just started and I already give "after" album of the year

I'm almost embarrassed to say I still haven't checked out AngL, and I loved The Adversary. I still find myself humming Called By the Fire :dio:

Great album. I saw signs on Adversary, but he's finally found himself again. I could go with a bit less saxophone, but my goodness, the musicianship is excellent, and his composition skills are at his 'With Strength I Burn', 'Inno a Satana' peak. 'Undercurrent' is my early contender for track of the year, but this album is full of great stuff like the title track and 'Frozen Lakes on Mars'.

I hope next album he falls for say, the oboe, and uses that throughout.

Terrific album. Mature, inspiring riffs, fantastic structure. 90/100
