People would rather start stupid arguments than give their attention to good bands?

So I downloaded this and I like it. Way more entertaining/interesting than most deathcore I've heard, or even most death metal. If they took out all the breakdowns, this could actually be pretty fucking good. The electronic parts are especially cool, like in Tastes Like Kevin Bacon.

their breakdowns suck though, they are filled with needless sweeps and aren't prolonged enough to dance too.

But it sums up the difference between Deicide and Suicide Silence, no? All very well saying something is 'silly and elitist' on an underground Metal site... ooh look, you just shot yourself in the foot.

But its also a misnomer I mean as hated as deathcore is its still a legitimized subgenre in the scene. Wouldn't that alone make it metal if its already been accepted by the metal community? Come on the only difference between Deicide and Suicide Silence are the names and reputations built by time. More metalheads are apt to say Deicide are "true" death metal because they were playing this style of music while Mitch and the gang were still in grade school or for some stupid reason like that.

Deicide doesn't play shitty breakdowns that you can see coming from a mile away and Glen Benton doesn't do screamo vocals. There's your difference. Deicide has also been around for 20+ years, and have stayed true to their original sound(sometimes to their detriment, I admit). A lot of these Deathcore bands are bandwagon jumpers and will disappear as soon as the scene does. How many Nu-Metal bands are still around, playing the same style of music they started with? Not many. Disturbed hangs around because they morphed into the very same shitty modern Rock you hear on commercial radio stations.

I do so love going to concerts when these shitty deathcore bands open for some truly brutal stuff like CC or Suffocation, and all of the scene kids stare at the TRUE death metal bands like they are frightened deers. Suffocation actually drove quite a few of them to leave the venue. Good times.

I think that the "je ne sais quoi" you speak of is all in your head. I don't understand how generic Deathcore band #2375 is any less "Metal" than any other Metal band, say Bloodbath or something, wether or not you like it is an entirely different question, and shouldn't come into play when determining whether or not a band is "real metal." Generic Deathcore band #2375 has heavily distorted guitars, drums, bass, and a vocalist who growls and screams. That sounds an awful lot like Metal to me.

Hardcore music also has distorted guitars, drums, bass and a vocalists who screams. It's not considered metal because in essence, they are playing heavily distorted riffs that have more in common with Punk music than they do Metal music. You're over-simplifing Metal, as it is a legitimate genre with it's own distinct sound, quite a bit with that statement. Most of the original wave of hardcore bands listened to more Sex Pistols than they did Black Sabbath.

To put it another way, The Misfits Earth AD sounds like a Metal album on the surface, but it's still very much a Punk record.

Yes, but the main point is that comparing scores to two different albums done by two different reviewers doesn't make any sense. Now, if you were comparing scores for two similar albums both reviewed by the same person, that would be another story.

I must admit, while I think Zadok is the best reviewer on the site, and the most objective, I think he dropped the ball on this one. I disagree with him on plenty of things, but in this case he seems to not be giving the album a fair shot, with too many complaints about "the scene". I'm a huge fan of "real" metal, and am not at ALL a fan of the deathcore "scene", but I think iwabo transcends this shit with a genuinely inspired sense of humor, inventive songwriting, and musical proficency, and excellent vocals.

Zadok FTW.

Thanks for the kind words, but I do want to defend myself on this one. Having a girl vocalist for a deathcore band and playing with genres isn't inventive songwriting - maybe they'll manage it on their next album. I did feel that it was primarily aimed at Deathcore people wanting something a little crazier, hence the 'humour'. Maybe it's a transatlantic thing, but is calling a song "Tastes Like Kevin Bacon" or "Pazuzu For The Win" really funny? I mean, 'for the win', give me a break.

iwrestledabearonce still makes me puke on myself, and those dance/electronic bits are still annoying as fuck.

I don't feel that having female vocals is what made it good songwriting, obviously. I think the songs speak for themselves. I also don't think it's fair to assume such a cynical view of their creation, that they are "aimed" at someone. Also, "Pazuzu for the Win" I contend is funny. I mean, it is supposed to be an ironic joke. They aren't using the phrase "For the Win" seriously. The juxtaposition between The Exorcist's chief demon villain and ridiculous l33t-speak is pretty funny I think. Also, I don't think the song titles are the primary source of humor for me. I also feel that the band is far better at their respective instruments that the LARGE majority of Deathcore, which is what keeps me listening.

Also, I use the word "also" too much.

In terms of musicianship and instrumental prowess, Veil Of Maya and After The Burial > iwrestledabearonce by a wide, vast gaping chasm of a margin.
