I'm gonna write a classic review for the White Stripes' Elephant. So there.

So your equating listenability with the band's "uniqueness" in playing style? I wonder if Cynic is the best band to use not that I'm trying to fight or anything, but there were other bands while Cynic was playing that run circles around the band. Atheist, Pestilence, Demilich I don't think its a stretch to say that they all had their unique elements. But in a music scene where "everything has been done before", why not go after entire music genres as opposed to certain bands? I'm anxious to see what you have to say.

Not equating listenability and uniqueness at all. "Uniqueness" is something else entirely- I am talking about originality, which can simply mean putting your own twist on a well established style.

And like I said to Ken, that's not a prerequisite for listenability. However, I'd say 95% of the time it is a prerequisite for being great, rather than good.

And much as I love Atheist, Demilich and Pestilence, even all combined together can't touch a record likie Traced in Air. Although that is getting off track.

Erm, no. If I hesitate before classicking bands as well-known and brilliant as Mr Bungle, Pink Floyd, Kyuss and The Dillinger Escape Plan due to them not being quite universal enough in their classickness to our broad Metalreviews audience, then there is no way in fuck that The White Stripes are getting classic reviews.

Fridge, ask the people - start a poll in General asking if El Whitos Stripos should be classic'd. If only to keep this thread on topic.

Sportscenter keeps using New Moon Rising for top plays. It's damn catchy. I'm gonna give this a chance.

I'm just an officer of the forum law, going about his business. Save the wolf cries for when they are deserved.

I wouldn't call myself a fan of these guys. But their debut was a smash for a reason. It was great, fun, immediate, commercial rock. I assume thats what they were going for and they hit a home run. I've got nothing against that kind of stuff and the debut was full of terrific examples of it.

I listened to Cosmic Egg once through and nothing jumped out at me.
Given the kind of music I just described that these guys are supposed to make, I think that means its shit.

I suppose its possible that its a grower. But when you're this type of band, I don't think you get that luxury.

As for Airbourne, I think they have every bit as much Rose Tattoo in them as they do AC/DC, so 'cover band' accusations are unfair.
Even still, I will have to agree with "Ken" when he says...who gives a fuck as long as the tunes kick ass. And Airborne certainly do.
