Knowing what :dio: is, and having applied it spontaneously and non-ironically whilst listening to metal.

Unfortunately, no-one can be told what the :dio: is. You have to see it for yourself.

Metal has The X Factor that other forms of music lack. To quote a part of what Sam Dunn said, "You either feel it or you don't. If metal doesn't give that overwhelming surge of power that make the hair stand up at the back of your neck, you might never get it. " I can't think of a better statement than that. Maybe metalheads are born and not made.

I like how distorted electric guitars sound.

Metal is a great genre of music. I don't listen to it a lot anymore but there's no denying the power that metal has. Metal just has more energy than any other form of music, and encompasses so many different styles that there's a form of "metal" for almost anyone who enjoys modern music.

I really don't care....i just listen and just love it. I can hear a lot of different things, but the great thing with Metal is that is the first thing i started listening, and still love most of it. :dio:

that can actually be a good hypothesis for running a genetic linkage study. so hard to do though, and i don't think any one of those castrated baboons in the funding commission would grant the fund. nice idea though

For me, it is a much more intense form of musical production. When you want a concentrated and energetic form of precisely tuned transients, harmonic distortion thrown on top is a good start.

Pop music works too, but not as often or as well generally.

My foot in your face. That's metal. Right?

Naw but there's already been good answers to this. For me it's become less and less important to go by any kind of label. I'd like to think that I'm an avid music lover with a prominent preference for metal (now tharr be a label for ya). And when I hear a really good metal song, I'm not out to look cool or shit or impress someone with how hard I am - I can really just dig it straight up. Yo.
