The last Dethalbum was classified as "Major Event", so I just went with that.

Kyle, I am on your side all the way. Yes the first album was straight up metal cheese but one still felt compelled to listen every now and then. Dethalbum II would definitely be a 'surprise album of 2009' by my standards. So no, Dethklok isn't Spinal Tap, Nanowar or any type of other parody metal band but I for one wouldn't mind hearing Brendan Small top this one (please don't call it Dethalbum III). Speaking of Brendan, he could be the Mike Judge of the metal world if he continues in the direction he's going.

Score: 83
Songs of choice: Murmaider II, Volcano, Cyborg Slayers and Laser Cannon Deth Sentence (D-D-D-D-D-D-DIE!)

Its a stark day when The Cleansing is outscored by a band originally designed as a joke at what is both metal and death. I'm not saying that people cant like this, but just wow. Fate can be so cruel, with truly fantastic bands being completely unheard of having to scrape by to even make an album, and these guys reap the rewards of boredom and jokularity.

I'm happy that you're happy, but from the first half of the album I heard, this was soft, boring imitation metal at best. Now Hypocrisy's newest, that is some damn fine melodic death metal. :dio:

I just don't understand why this is getting so much negativity. It's damn fun to listen to and it really is a grower. It doesn't break new ground for the genre, but it's a huge improvement for the band and, to me, is beautiful in its simplicity (as I said in the review).

I'm not one of the people who hate this because it's a joke band that is more successful than most legit bands.

What I didn't like is that the music is very deadpan. The guitars just have no life to them, and the drumming is Extreme Metal Template #2. The vocals are whispered, and what's being whispered is complete silliness with a lack of tongue-in-cheek or wit. Murmaider II is really the only worthwhile song.

It's very stock music behind unfunny lyrics.

I liked the first album. This however lacks the catchiness and dynamics of the first album. The second album just plods along with nothing all to interesting sticking out to the ear.

While I haven't heard this album yet, my issue is with you saying Dethklok are mocking metal in general. Yes they poke alot of fun (I'm talking about the show metalocalypse) at metal and death metal in particular, but its all in good fun. The writers are obviously massive fans of death and black metal. Throughout the show and music they drop tons of homages to many extreme metal bands that only fans would get. But yeah, the first Dethklok album was nothing more than a poor imitation as you pointed out, but that doesn't change the fact that the show is truly awesome and that the jokes are nothing more than good fun.

Your wrong man!! sings harshly he doesn't whisper. I'm kidding even after hearing Thunderhorse the band still is nothing but a joke. I agree with you when you say that they are getting more accolades then bands that play the music truly. But given the success of the show and the sold out shows it was a logical thing to happen.

I loved Dethalbum one, although that contains so biased on my part as I'm a huge fan of the show.

To me, D2 is a godsend, with a more polished sound, better guitar solos and riffs, smoother vocals, and overall a more epic experience. Yes there are some weak songs (Symmetry is just terrible) but I love this album to....DETH (Tee hee I made a pun I'm funny.)

I listened to everything on myspace .. I didn't mind it at all. The score sounds about right. And let's be honest .. metal is a genre ripe for parody so don't be too surprised when it happens.

I don't really agree with you people about Symmetry and Comet Song. I think they're both good and catchy (and Comet Song has one of the best outros I've ever heard). To be honest I didn't expect much from these guys but damn... Every song is a killer. I just can't stop listening to it.

I don't think anyone is surprised. I personally just think they do a pretty poor job satirizing it, though.

Hey, new to the boards here, so be gentle

So after a few months of testing a little hypothesis I had that was, people who weren't familiar with the band would like them when listened to, I must say that my hypothesis for the most part was right.

Out of maybe 18 or 19 people I know that like metal and didn't recognize the album or band right off when I played it for them, about 15 of em liked it, yet when I told em that it was Dethklok they had a hard time saying anything positive anymore.

I'm really flabbergasted why so many metal heads hate dethklok. I love em and I've been of fan of metal for 15 years. My favorite bands (not including Dethklok) are, in order - Overkill, Megadeth, Dimmu Borgir, Slayer, Nightwish and Lacuna Coil. Throw in some Opeth and King Diamond and I'm happy. So why so much hate for a band that although is tongue in cheek, is one big ode to metal?

I mean you can't fault the work involved, Brendon Small does every bit of the writing and playing for all the instruments minus drums. He writes and directs a cartoon on top of studio recording and touring so anyone that says he "doesn't deserve the attention" is just showing jealosy. He's put more time and effort into this than most metal band members ever do. Also, the list of band members that do voice work on his show is amazing as well, which tells me the actual major bands like him, so again, why so much hate?

Not that I'm saying any of your opinions are wrong by any means, I just really can't understand the rage aimed at Dethklok. They're doing metal a favor by opening it up to people who would have never bought, listened to or supported the metal scene in any way. My sister likes Dethklok and her music collection amounts to The Cure, Tom Waits and various "world music" albums. She just started listening to End Game and Ironbound after DA II so I'd say, if anything, consider Dethklok an introduction to Metal, which is wicked imo.

Anyway, my 2 cents, just wanted to comment on DAII and Dethklok in general, even if I am way late.

And that Gene Hoglan .. whata phoney. No metal credibility whatsoever.

Lmao, ya, what a crappy drummer :P

In all seriousness though, his pacing at the end of Volcano and throughout Laser Canon Deth Sentence is insane, I think that might just be the fastest no double bass petal blast beats I've ever heard.

I saw Dethklok in concert in Denver a few months back and man, he makes it all look effortless :lame:

Honestly, the music that is in the backround on the TV show is entirely 100x better than both CD's combined.

It's just all been done before, and way better. I don't feel any energy off the album and I don't appreciate the gimmick. The TV show tries too hard and it's just not my style of humor.

I wish it would go away, really.
