Thanks for the warning. I will approach this album with caution. :D

"Belus had better be real fucking good"

haha.
I think you presented a pretty accurate representation of the album, there is very little to review in the way of "Daudi Baldrs".
You wrote far better then the hags at MA at the very least.

I keep re-reading "fetid collection of haemorrhoidal musical diarrhoea". It's perfect.

Why even bother reviewing something you hate so much? Listen to Hliðskjálf and tell us what you think. It's much better imo.

I was asked to review it as part of a general completion of Burzum reviews to coincide with the release of Belus. Since I don't like Burzum that much anyway, it seemed fairer to his other releases for me to take this one.

So enjoy the vitriol purely for its own sake.

Oh, ok then.

So this means there will be a review for Filosofem too? Well, it's about fucking time.

I do recommend Hliðskjálf to you. It's not like this one at all.

Yes this album was recorded and created in a Burzum-Varg bad moment, it's experimental and simple in parts but I think don't deserve a 5/100

Hliðskjálf as Kathaarian said is better... and I hope Belus can exceed expectations.

Dude, I heard Balferth Baldrs, and that song is serious bullshit.

It's literally the same 9 second phrase repeated over and over and over for 6 minutes.

Wow, man.

I'm one of the few who actually enjoys Daudi Baldrs from time to time, and I'm more inclined to agree with the positive MA reviews than this one. Throughout his career Varg has always demonstrated an ability to write really atmospheric riffs and melodies, no matter how repetitive. Tomhet and Rundgang are good examples of that, and really these tracks aren't so drastically different beyond being pretty much entirely keyboard oriented.

On Daudi Baldrs you get a similar concept, but in album form and I think he showed that on Belus when he metalised the Daudi Baldrs title track into Belus' Doed. I'm not claiming that this album is a work of musical genius, nor that it's even among Burzum's strongest albums. I actually do think it's his weakest (though I guess that's relative since I enjoy everything he's ever written), though whether it surpasses Hlidskjalf kind of changes for me. It's an album that I find works best when you're in need of relaxing background music. I find it's especially good for setting the mood when setting down to reading a bit of fantasy, historical fiction, sagas or anything mythology related.

I understand its repetitive and I liked the review, particularly the analogies....BUT, 5/100 is a bit harsh. I think its nice background music, nothing much more than that. I agree whole heartedly on the Varg ego thing, but the score is a bit much. 60/100 when you consider it is more suitable as background music.
