I thought about this a while, but can't think of a single choice for best Death or Black. What about Doom, like Rio said, and Prog?

I'm just gonna vote for overall and say In Flames - Reroute to Remain, and dodge the tomatoes as I head out of this thread. lol

I was actually thinking of adding "Prog" to the list. Except prog metal usually falls more under the heavy metal category than anything else. So I left it off.

You can add Doom metal if you like. Unfortunately, I don't have any personal choices in that genre, as I don't listen to doom.
