SYL City was 1997. Maybe you meant Alien.

We should have a best band of the decade poll where everyone puts in their top 10 or smth because I could actually do that whereas best album is like a 20 way tie for first.

Agreed

Anyways...

1. Thrash: n/a
2. Death: The Black Dahlia Murder--Nocturnal
3. Power: Blind Guardian--A Night at the Opera
4. Heavy: Slough Feg--Traveller
5. Black: Wolves in the Throne Room: Diadem of 12 Stars
6. Metalcore: Converge--Jane Doe
7. Overall: Converge--Jane Doe
8. Non-metal: Coheed and Cambria--IV: Good Apollo, or Bon Iver--For Emma Forever Ago, or Thrice--Live at the House of Blues, or The Mars Volta--Frances the Mute
9. Doom: eh
10. Prog: Between the Buried and Me--Colors

Wintersun's s/t is probably my favorite pure metal album of the decade (if Jane Doe is too borderline?), but it didn't fit anywhere. Also, Dream Theater deserves a mention...this is too hard.

Fuck, I thought City was released in '01 for some reason.

Well, either way it's a timeless album. Changing list now.

Technically, Ironbound shouldn't really be on this list, since it's a 2010 release (even though it was leaked in late-2009). This list is supposed to cover only 2000-2009 music.

Best Thrash Metal Album - Exodus - Shovel Headed Kill Machine (and I just realized how poor of a decade this has been for thrash, in terms of quality.)

well, I may not know a lot about other genres from this decade. But I can assure that thrash was not poor for this decade. Again, look at my first post for a few albums that are way better than Shovel Headed Kill Machine.

I know I've said this before, but I think I'm one of the only people ever that legitimately loves SHKM.

And Ironbound is acceptable here? I thought it was an '00 thru '09 list.

What I meant by the '00's being a poor decade for thrash albums was that not many (if any) thrash albums came out that really turned the genre on its head. Thrash is a genre that's all about being the fastest and most aggressive, not the most innovative. I guess that's what its appeal has really always been, but still, I think the genre has progressed as far as it ever will. So I made my decision in terms of which album was most aggressive, and SHKM won out.

P.S. I need to give that Sacrifice album another try. It really did nothing for me on first listen.

The Antichrist and M-16.

as for Ironbound, I forgot. Yes it came out in 2010, but it did leak in 09. Does that count?

If this were an official list it probably wouldn't, but I'd say it's acceptable here. If it is, then I'd probably change my vote to that.

And I really, really need to start listening to Sodom. M-16 is a great album but I've maybe listened to it twice. They're just a difficult group for me to get into for whatever reason.

Destruction's never really been my cup o' thrash for whatever reason. I'll admit that I'm a shitty thrash fan. :P But I'll definitely give The Antichrist a listen, upon your recommendation.

I don't disagree with this, I have heard a few Destruction songs and I agree.

Testament best thrash?

HA

Sodom - M-16
Overkill - Ironbound
Heathen - Evolution of Chaos
Destruction - The Antichrist, D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N.
Tankard - Thirst, B-Day, Beast of Bourbon, The Beauty and the Beer
Sacrifice - The Ones I Condemn

what do they have in common? They all destroy anything Testament ever did, especially Formation of Damnation.

Did you forget to mention Vektor - Black Future or are you a huge faggot?

I was severely tempted to go with Beast of Bourbon for best thrash album for Die With A Beer In Your Hand and Alien Revenge alone...but alas I did not.

Anyways, I really suck at these "pick one" lists because there are many that I'd actually mention as the best of the last decade and not just one, but I'm bored so here goes:

1. Best Thrash Metal Album: Destoyer 666 – Cold Steel…For An Iron Age (not pure thrash, but hey, it works)

2. Best Death Metal Album: Bolt Thrower – Those Once Loyal

3. Best Doom Metal Album (no power metal for moi): Candlemass – Candlemass

4. Best Heavy Metal Album: King Diamond – Abigail II

5. Best Black Metal Album: Nifelheim – Servants of Darkness

6. Best Metalcore Album: I’m going to interpret this category in such a way that it includes punky, crusty metal. Therefore I vote for Fuck Off and Die – No Peace. No Love. No Whores. No God. May metalcore please fuck off and die.

7. Best Metal Album Overall: Bolt Thrower – Those Once Loyal

8. Best Non-Metal Album: Le Vent du Nord - Maudite Moisson
