Started getting BSODs with the following message:



Tried running a benchmark program, get same error each time it gets up to a certain point. Is my CPU kaput?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.22 Ghz
4GB Ram
Windows 7 64

Have you been overclocking?

Nope, no overclocking, paranoid about it bursting into flame. And no, no overheating that I can tell, the BIOS temperature things are all well in the green.

Some people reported that their BIOS was accelerating their CPU on it's own .. might want to check the clock speed anyhow. If you are able to change the clock speed, even try underclocking it.

your motherboard probably came with a utility to set the cpu clock speed on a CD somewhere (unless it was prebuilt like a Dell or something)

troubleshooting pcs usually involves replacing parts until you find the part that is causing the issue (and pray that its not more than 1 part acting together).

I guess the absolute cheapest parts to replace are software drivers. Looks like AMD has a driver page here for CPUs .. there might be an update:

Also check for video card driver updates .. although it doesn't really sound like a video card issue.

The next cheapest is re-installing the OS. I only recommended an older one because they are more stable having been around longer, and if it still crashing on XP then you know its very likely hardware and not software.

Beyond that, its going to get costly and time-consuming and requires some expertise .. might be better just to take it to a computer shop somewhere. They should have setups they can swap pieces in and out .. if they can find the broken part will still be cheaper than buying new.

It is either a software issue or your motherboard. Something is going wrong with the Interrupt requests, which the BSOD mentioned.

What OS are you using? And are you certain it supports your motherboard and processors?

I would pretty much rule out a physical problem with the motherboard, very unlikely. It might be one of the processors or each one of them requires thier own IRQ and they are both on the same one, conflicting one another.

If everything worked before, reinstall the OS, that will likely fix it.

Try Sun microsystem's Virtual Box and emulate a new install and see if the new embedded OS gives you errors.

Windows 7 64-bit, as I said, and yes, did the upgrade scanner test thing and it came back clean.

It's probably Windows 7 64 bit being retarded. I have an issue with leaving my PC on for maybe 6-8 hours while I'm not on it and when I come back no programs will open from any short cuts like my task bar or whatever and I just get a message about memory... Which leaves me turning my computer on and off when I want to use it.

Did some searching and basically I need to downgrade Windows, find out if maybe I have a bunk piece of hardware ( which I doubt considering this comp is 3 months old ) or just deal with it.

Analyze the minidump files. Haven't worked with win7 much, but I presume it will be in the c:\windows\system32 folder. It will give you the name of the file causing the error. Google that file and see what it is for.

EDIT: the time and date were wrong lol, changed it back and everything seems to be fine again. still can't find my battery though.

EDIT: so batteries cost like £60. i think i'm going to look again.

I think batteries have become standard and simply have to fit into the little plastic housing that your computer uses.

That's strange. A PSU causing blue screens? You learn something new everyday. It sometimes puzzles me how what you never suspect to be the problem turns out to be what's causing it.

Yeah, not enough power going to the right bits.

That would only happen if you upgraded components yourself. That would be pretty rare for the company to put in stock components and an inadequate power supply.

Shit company, what can I say, heh.
