These dudes have an interesting sound but it's hard to get through the whole album.

I somehow missed this band, I take it Ichthyologist is where I should start?

Usually more of a lurker here but I love Giant Squid, so I'll answer that one. :)

I think you should start with The Ichthyologist, yeah. It's more "accessible", in the sense that it's more cohesive and less "all over the place" as Metridium Fields. It's somewhat also both softer and heavier at some parts. I'd suggest maybe you check out "Sevengill" on Ichthyologist, it's my favorite on it and the appearance by Anneke (van Giersbergen) really makes it stand out.
