Do any of the reviewers/regular posters here use the Metal Archives to post their work? A lot of you should go there and actually post reviews with substance, just wondering MA could use some of the actual sense that this site has had for years.

yeah there's some pretty horrible reviews on that site that really skew the average percentage's for some of the albums.

I agree. There's no reason why Chaos AD (one of the greatest metal albums of the 90's) should have such a low rating.

I've only been to Metal Archives a few times in the past, and it struck me as a site being full of pretentious assholes. I'm not really eager to go back.

I like m-a for it's info but the community always seemed very angry and not worth getting into.

Yah, there's a lot of good info, but the reviews are worthless.

Uhhhh, no offense, but aren't MOST metal sites like that?

Personally I'd rate that really low myself. Probably in the 60's.

ONLY BASEMENT CUT HUNGARIAN BLACK METAL SLIT MY WRISTS GRRRRRRRRRRRR

I'd write some reviews up, but I'm rather lazy. I'd really like to do some because I have a different opinion than what is generally considered the consensus when it comes to a lot of metal. I think a lot of people are far too tough on bands that have branched out and try to evolve, or maybe genres that may be a bit new and experimental and haven't been ironed out.

Oh yeah, and melodic death metal is never cool, right? Fuckin' ever. Unless it's At the freakin' Gates.

Oh, man... seriously?
I'd have to say one of the biggest dissapointments of the 90's.
I was expecting a lot better after Schizophrenia, BTR and Arise.
Chaos AD is one of the biggest nosedives in recent metal history.

I got no problem with M-A's; lot of info, and sometimes the reviews are pretty helpful.

Yeah, I use it a lot for information about bands, and if you know to read with a pinch of salt the reviews can be helpful indeed. Obviously the reviews at this awesome site called metalreviews.com are far better. Obviously.

And I agree that Chaos AD was a nosedive. Roots was way better, which is probably the one part of this post that COTB will disagree with, heh.

Dictatorshit was a decent track, though

lulz.

Always gets a laugh out of me. I remember back in HS kids would go on for days about that CD and I'd talk about In Flames and At the Gates and shit and they'd tell me that it was bullshit happy metal.

While you guys tend to miss a some of the gimmes, I've discovered TONS of BM and DM I don't think I would have discovered at the other sites I used to visit.

Nice to see Roots get some love here. Yeah, it was (for all intents and purposes) a nu-metal record. But let's look at this objectively: Korn was still more-or-less an unknown at the time, Machine Head wouldn't release The Burning Red for another three years, bands like Coal Chamber and Limp Bizkit hadn't even released their first albums yet, etc. That said, I doubt it was ever intended to be a sell-out. Just an evolution of the slower groove metal style Sepultura practically pioneered with Chaos AD.

I don't like Chaos A.D. very much either. I can see the appeal, but it's never done anything for me.

As for M-A, it is extremely useful for finding out information about bands and albums. When I put up a review for this site, I almost always use it to find the album's length, label, release date, etc. And I actually agree with a lot of the average review scores, though the people that give albums 0%'s without having a truly justifiable reason are pricks.

I think M-A is a great site. I know the overall opinion is focused more on black metal than anything else, and you have some really shitty reviewers there like alexlovestheredchord or grimdoom or whatnot, but there are a lot of good reviewers there also, you just have to look past the idiots there really.

I never thought it was that black metal focused; it it really was, then I guess I wonder what the hell I was doing here all these years? For example, the Boris and Nadja types get a ton of support over there too. I find some of the reviewers extremely pretentious, but then some are very good writers too.

Plus, two in my all-time top 5, Katatonia's DoDS and Negura Bunget's OM have two of the highest review scores I have ever seen for more than reviews, and both feature some excellent individual reviews...so I can't say I dislike the site. Then again, I have never really looked at the forums for more than a glance...
