It's leaked. I've only listened through it once and it's pretty awesome. Any thoughts on it yet?

Listening to the first song right now and it's a bit all over the place but the chorus is very nice. It's sort of cliché at this point but I don't think I can ever get tired of hearing Kiske wail during a good chorus.

Staaargaaaazers...

You didn't fool me for an instant. :P

Anyway, I absolutely love the few songs I've heard... sounds very much more power metal oriented, which is a great thing. I loved The Scarecrow, but I was definitely hoping for something more Metal Opera-y, and this seems to be a combination of both projects... much better than I was expecting. I know I'll be reviewing at least one of the albums, but I don't know who's doing the other one.

After a few listens only the opening track stands out to me. The rest just seems bland to me.

I don't know about the rest of the songs but Runaway Train is a fucking good song.

Wow I didn't realize it was a double album and that I only had one.

Wow I just heard Crying for an Angel.....this is not meant to be metal correct? He's purposely going for a pop sound and he is not making any pretenses about it.....because this sounds extremely commercial. Not quite sure whether Tobias identifies with the metal camp anymore. Just seeking clarification.

You're a douchebag who thinks he's the defender of THE METAL REALM.

Hope that clears things up.

Of course that song's not meant to be metal. In the past five or six years he's been incorporating more pop and hard rock elements into his music, so it's expected that the longer he makes music, the more likely it is that he'll put out songs that aren't metal at all.

But if you're judging Avantasia for not being metal, well, you clearly haven't listened to anything else from the new album(s) other than Dying (yes Dying, not Crying) for an angel, which is admittedly a pretty mediocre song. The metal stuff from it sounds fantastic though, if you're into primarily vocal-driven metal, that is. I'd like to see you try and tell me that this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIrS3OeVVuk isn't metal. Other than a handful of songs (and I haven't heard both albums in their entirety yet), this is probably the most metal-oriented album Sammet's done since Hellfire Club.

Now if that's not metal sounding I don't know what is.

+1 , with Bob and Jorn on board, Tobias can't go wrong with these two great voices.

I really like Death Is Just A Feeling too... Jon's voice is incredible in this track.

Dying for an angel is very bland, meh song.

I have to listen to it, opinion based only in some songs on youtube by the moment.

Klaus Meine gets the Rock Song
Tim Owens gets the Power Metal Song
Kiske gets the Helloween/Gamma Ray Speed Metal

The songs are made for the singer, so it is not surprising, that they are different.

Haven't heard everything yet but so far I really like Wastelands and Death Is Just A Feeling. Jon Oliva really is the man.
