According to the Guardian Lib Dems are now up to 29% in the opinion polls equal to Labour... Double-you, tee, eff. And to read their headlines you'd think they'd jumped to the yellow ship now.

Not that that isn't brilliant, but it is taken directly from people who watched the debate. Pinch of salt.

(read the first comments to get Martin Kettle's clarification)

Of course, everyone (including the Grauniad) now are trying to pour cold water on this, but it has made a lot of LibDems very happy indeed, I can tell you. Being optimistic, this is the start of a groundswell of support that will give us another forty or so MPs, which should be easy if Clegg can carry on being this good. There really is no reason he can't, of course. He promised on election as leader to double the then-number of MPs (60-odd) within two elections - ten years. We're well on course. :) Still, as I said earlier, the Tory big guns will be coming out now. Interesting couple of weeks ahead.

So apparently today is some kind "Stay silent" day for the awareness of the abuse of homosexuals just because of their sexual orientation. A few people I know are staying silent all day because of this day.

The message is awesome. The way people are spreading it is not.

Sorry, but, if people REALLY want to raise awareness, then they should open their mouths and SAY something instead of shutting up and waiting for people to come to them. Keeping your mouth shut all day isn't going to solve ANY problems. If you have an opinion, speak up and let it be HEARD for God's sake! This "Stay silent to raise awareness" stuff is far less effective than actually speaking, and really, if you feel SO strongly about this, then you should be supporting it out loud any chance you get. Really, what are people going to remember: Someone who stayed silent for only ONE day, or someone who spoke up EVERY day because they are truly PROUD of what they believe in? Don't get me wrong; the message of this "Holiday" is AWESOME, but everyone is going about it in the completely wrong way.

I think if I stayed silent for a day, nobody would notice

Maybe if these people are naturally the life and soul of the party, people will take notice, though.

But yeah, if you support something, support it all year round, I say.

Well my one really good friend that's doing it is a really energetic person, so it's noticeable, but at the same time I've never, EVER heard her say anything pro-gay. I get the feeling she's just jumping on the bandwagon, and then a week from now everyone will forget what she did... And so will she.

Just done my first-ever leafletting, walking around in the sunshine with the local councillor, lovely woman. Suprised by how much I enjoyed it.

By the way, not trying to rain on your parade, glad you had fun.

Good luck to the Lib Dems and all that.

I don't know if I posted this already but I demonstrated at a tea party rally at my uni. I was the only one protesting against it and I had this little sign saying 'marxist' pointing upwards to my head. A lot of people just gave me dirty looks but the one's who stopped and talked to me got tongue-tied when I addressed actual inequality in the world. This one guy said after I threw out the 2% of CEOs are women stat said that inequality arises out of sin.

You went on a one-man anti-Tea Party demo?

Epic IRL trollage, very well done.

You should take your newly acquired copy of the Communist Manifesto out canvassing with you. When they open the door say "Did you know that Nick Clegg believes the history of all human society is the history of class struggle?"

Anyway, what is the score in your constituency? Are you aiming to unseat Labour or a Tory? If the latter, extra special good luck, and if the former, then sorta muted ho hum good luck.

My area is a Labour-Tory two horse race (with one of the few steadfastly anti-Iraq War labour MPs) so I worry that a vote for the Lib Dems will just let the Tories in. Thereby being an epic case of self-pwnage.

Tory local council, NuLab MP - Ivan Lewis, I'm sure we've discussed him before. Which is your constituency?

Ivan Lewis, eh? From wiki:

Quote:
Lewis is a member of and was formerly Vice-Chair of Labour Friends of Israel, and is a trustee of the Holocaust Educational Trust. He was a strong supporter of the Israeli military offensive in Gaza in January 2009, defending the Israeli military's campaign in several speeches

Booo hiss

I'm in Leeds North East.

EDIT: My MP is Fabian Hamilton

Looking back I really just wanted a sign saying how wages are equal to govt regulations and that we need to end worker's greed. Yeah, it was pretty hardcore trollage. I even fucked with the pro-life demonstrators who were milking it for publicity. The guy looked like he wanted to tolchock me one.

Talking of odd right wing folk, here's an amusing interview with the head of UKIP.
