There's some badass metal bands with chicks like Jex Thoth and Battle of Mice but most of them it's not the girl singing that's the problem, it's the pussified backing music.

Just noticed there's a chicks in metal aspect to this thread.

I've heard a few female vocalists in obscure Polish Death Metal bands that sounded good. For the life of me I can't remember the names of them though as it's been a few years.

Other bands with female representation:

Warlock - vocalist
Bolt Thrower - bass player
Fuck The Facts - Grindcore Vocalist
Sinister - Death Metal vocalist
The Gathering -
early Theatre of Tragedy
Therion

Angela Gassow out of Arch Enemy is just a poor Jeff Walker (Carcass) impersonator though but credit to her for showing that women can be death metal vocalists to a more wider audience.

So women in metal are fine. As a genre it does appear mainly to men though so women are not represented so much.
