Whatever happens, I appear to be anti-military, with my libertarian side asserting itself generally - although there's enough suspicion of anarchism to make me a partial statist, interestingly. Sorry, rio, some government is better than no government at all...

hey, just in the middle between anarchy & state... I thought I was more anarchist.

So, the Israel - Turkey situation is pretty fucked up. Some were talking about it in the post count plus 1 thread but got distracted by that hot German singer.

Israel have gone completely power crazy. Their use of violence against civilians had caused many people to frown and do nothing over the years, but attacking a civilian bot with aid supplies for civilians in Gazza? And killing unarmed people for no good reason at all (if there is any, ever)? I think it's about time the world stood up and told them to cut the crap.

Sure, the Jews have been fucked by the world over and over in history. They don't want to even come near a situation like the Holocaust ever again. This justifies some of their actions, like wanting a strong army, being cautious and to some extent being aggressive. But nothing justifies killing civilians. This time they are not even people who are considered enemies by Israel. Turks and Jews have been allies since forever, in fact we're the only ally they have in the region. Making an enemy out of their only friends. Bad move there Israel. Bad move.

The spin's already begun; they weren't innocent, they were Hamas supporters with links to global terror, lying in wait to ambush and lynch IDF soldiers! You'd think a lynch mob would have better weapons than steel rods and a couple of knives, no? Yet until I hear different, the boat was attacked in international waters and should not have been boarded, end of.

Nothing'll come of it, though, the US has already intervened to avoid condemnation. A few protests here and there, and then it'll go back to normal, and there's only so much people can do - here, a couple of British government ministers have called for an end to the Gaza blockade, but unless the whole of Europe and/or America suddenly says, with a single voice, that military aid (at least!) will be cut off to Israel unless they change, nothing will. Still, no doubt our local Lib Dems will be buzzing at the next meeting - given what the Turkish PM was saying earlier, you won't need to do much, heh.
