I can't say I actively listen to the radio on a daily basis, though what I have heard of this Justin Bieber, I'd rather have my ears torn off.

Yes, he's a tool.

You should see my last.fm list sometime. My top 20 include The Libertines, Ke$ha, the Killers, Oasis, Paramore, the Streets and Counting Crows, and the only metal band up there is Sonata Arctica.

Seriously though, my only complaint is that I think many and most people from a metal perspective don't give bands like Nickelback the chance they deserve- they switch their brains off the moment they hear the obligatory radio-friendly ballad, or the 13 year old hot topic girl with the t-shirt, or whatever else, when in fact they're actually very good musicians who do some pretty tricky rock n'roll stuff as well as write really good songs.

But whatever. I'm not really gonna reach that many people here.

Regarding the popular bands of this period in the future... My guesses would be mostly stuff from the popular indie scene- The Libertines, The Arctic Monkeys, the Strokes, The White Stripes, the Kings of Leon, etc.

One glance at my last.fm profile and you'd see your not the only one listening to a variety of music. I'm pretty sure there's a lot more people on these boards in the same situation than you give credit for.

all in all, Nickelback still blows. You can't get more generic than them. They are simply devoid of imagination and musical chops.
If you want some radio friendly heavy rock Three Days Grace is a much better choice IMO. They're at least worth the effort of a glance.

Proof TDG latest single: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4VCpTZye10

More than not listening to Metal it was about me listening to a lot of stuff that would be considered completely lame and pussy-ish by most metalheads. But whatever, I appreciate the solidarity :D
I find 3DG utterly boring. O.o

Y'see, this post is proof that you don't really know what you're talking about, putting The Libertines next to The Arctic Monkeys and pretending that that little smackhead Doherty has even a quarter as much talent. It just ain't so. At least The Rolling Stones wrote good music on drugs - what have The Libertines given the world, Up The Bracket? Jeez. You need to review more good stuff, and listen to less bollocks.

Yeah, and we're freakin Canadian lol!
I even saw a petition during the Vancouver Olympics to prevent Nickelback from playing the closing show.... unfortunately it didn't happen.

I'm not talking about what bands are the best ones from that scene, just which ones will stay on the airwaves.

Although you need to fuck off with this Doherty bashing- him and Barat make a great writing team. Better than the Arctic Monkeys. Yep, I said it.

Yeah my friend went to Wacken a couple years ago and said Europeans are weird and actually listen to bands like Danko Jones and Nickelback that are just considered a joke here.

The world blames Canada for Bryan Adams, but you guys eat up Nickelback ? Given the choice I'd listen to Bryan Adams, well almost anything else.

Danko Jones just half-headlined a festival here, along with Rammstein, Sepultura, Eluveitie, etc. I didn't see them, but apparently they made quite an impact.

I think it's because we don't have Nickelback's ballads filling up our radio airwaves.

Come on, how can you not dig those harmonies they write? Or the duet singing?

with us Canadians.

Jesus. Not only do you think that they're any good, but you prefer them to TAM.

For the uninitiated, this is like preferring Bullet For My Valentine to Opeth.

I had forgotten about that mp3 lol! at the 27 - 35s mark the drum beat is exactly the same. The hole structure in fact is the same lol

Once you heard a Nickelback song you've heard them all.

Wow, two of their songs, the same type, written for the same target audience, in the same key, sorta kinda fit together in a mashup.

Come on, you've got to admit that at least some of their rocking stuff is cool.
