Although you need to fuck off with this Doherty bashing- him and Barat make a great writing team. Better than the Arctic Monkeys. Yep, I said it.

Come on, how can you not dig those harmonies they write? Or the duet singing?

Jesus. Not only do you think that they're any good, but you prefer them to TAM.

For the uninitiated, this is like preferring Bullet For My Valentine to Opeth.

Bullshit. Utter, complete bull.

1) This is brilliant, and 2) the Arctic Monkeys have an obvious huge influence from the Libs.

Heh @ DevWal (you honestly think they're equal in musical talent?) but seriously Fridge, posting a single crappy song isn't going to change my mind.

So there! And I can't hear the influence... both singers have accents?

Yeah my friend went to Wacken a couple years ago and said Europeans are weird and actually listen to bands like Danko Jones and Nickelback that are just considered a joke here.

Danko Jones just half-headlined a festival here, along with Rammstein, Sepultura, Eluveitie, etc. I didn't see them, but apparently they made quite an impact.

I think it's because we don't have Nickelback's ballads filling up our radio airwaves.

What! Nickelback write songs that are not ballads !?
Joking aside, they're simply not any good allmusic.com surely agrees
with us Canadians.

Come on, you've got to admit that at least some of their rocking stuff is cool.

Well, for starters they both like to blur the division between the concepts of lead and rhythm guitar, focusing a lot on a sort of harmonic duality between the two. Although the Arctic Monkeys are a lot more percussive than the Libs. (for ex, The View From The Afternoon)
Next, Alex Turner's singing style isn't at all dissimilar from the slightly mumbling drawl that Doherty and Barat use. It gives the lyrics a sort of urban wisdom vibe- something about grittiness being able to still produce beauty. For example, Riot Van or the Libs' Music When The Lights Go Out.
Structurally, they both like using dynamic differences by switching between power chord-based riffs and raunchy, simplistic lead playing. You can hear that Turner liked the way the Libs used lead guitar, mixing melodies and themes with dirty improvisation.

Sorry, Fridge, but that's all bollocks and you have no idea what you're on about. I'm not saying that they're not more similar than either and, eg, Iron Maiden, but there is a vast gulf in quality that should be obvious to anyone with ears.

What, because they're heavier?
I don't fucking get it. Where is this vast gulf in quality? How is it obvious?

Can you honestly say that you can't hear how this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amrCDKYA ... re=related) might've been an influence for Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not?

Might have. Jesus, from that so might The Specials or The Kinks. Neither TAM or TL have a really original sound, but TAM do what they do far better. The songs. Are better.

That's just a dogmatic statement with no backing for it! How are they better? Why are they better?

Because they're not all crackheads? I could review it, but I'm not going to. It's just one of those things that's hard to explain to a Nickleback fan.

That Brainstorm song is pretty sweet. Their drummer is tite. The Libertines sounded like garbage mixed with vomit. Bored singing bland drumming lame twangy guitar garbage.
