Fair enough.

I mean, any album becomes less fun if you listen to it non-stop for weeks on end, but that very rarely happens to me because my playlist is naturally very mixed up anyways.

A very typical case like this was the Cain's Offering. After a couple of spins I realized that it just didn't have enough to maintain interest. On the other end of the spectrum, something like BFMV's The Poison was easy for me to review because I've been listening to it for years and it still keeps my interest.

Couldn't this little exchange been kept to PM's?

Like, did MR really need another little bitch fest?

I know I know, what do I personally contribute here? Yeah, not a whole lot, but that was ridiculous.

WELL, considering you're quite possibly the bitchiest poster here...

But seriously, it turned a shit thread into a good thing and now the sun will shine tomorrow. This all started because Fridge has shit taste in music, blame him!

Here ya go. More indie reviews than you can shake a stick at.

http://pitchfork.com/
http://www.culturebully.com/
http://www.kevchino.com/
http://www.indierockreviews.com/
http://www.muzikreviews.com/

There is absolutely no need to review this stuff on a metal site. None whatsoever.

Post threads in the alt section or in general music, or do yourself a favour and apply for a job at Pitchfork.

I am not the bitchiest on the forum. I think that belongs to you.

And I've learned not to blame fridge for anything, it's not his fault he sucks.

You can review it from a metal perspective.

@Frig: Sounds like you should do more archives than. That way you have adequate time. I'm not faulting you or anything; I understand exactly what you mean. Getting albums and taking time to review them is cool but you should also be able to listen to enough music to have a constant stream of stuff to write on.

I may have sounded harsh, but I didn't mean to get at Fridge. Personally speaking, I listen to music for a good part of my day, everything from the Beastie Boys to Behexen, and writing about it is as much fun for me as it (hopefully) is for y'all to read it.

Did they actually play non-stop Floyd, Sabbath and Priest in the 70s or was that just part of what they played, the rest being crap that's been forgotten in the fullness of time? I think you're being a bit selective - I'm sure in 40 years' time the bands remembered will not be the Britneys and Nickelbacks.

Nickelback will be playing on the classic rock station numerous times a day and Britney will be on the old pop radio. Come on now.

I don't really think taste in music has declined. There's going to be people that like the generic and the crap that's made for the masses always, and while there will be some bands that break through the crap will always be on top.

Music today is no different than the days of old. Like the older days there's still bands representing today that will be remembered and given credit like Pink Floyd or whatever.

I can tell you now, those bands will not be Nickelback and Britney Spears.

I strongly disagree with you. They'll be played endlessly. In fact I think Nickelback already graces 2 classic rock radio stations here quite frequently.

I mean that's like saying Poison and Madonna wouldn't be played endlessly 20 years ago and they're on the radio daily.

I was more talking about "bands representing today that will be remembered and given credit like Pink Floyd or whatever" point. Radio has always sucked, so I'm not surprised that it still sucks, but bands like Nickelback will never be held in the same esteem as Pink Floyd. They'll be remembered more along the lines of, like you said, Poison or some other shitty glam band, except it's just post-grunge instead of glam.

Nickelback is better than Poison anyways.

Love this thread. Especially the way FS basically throws himself onto the flame grenade to muffle the blast aimed at MS.

My opinion:

If you think music is getting worse, you aren't listening to enough modern music- it is that simple. On top of that, if, to illustrate the point that music is getting worse, you use Toto and Journey as the examples of the golden achievements of yesteryear, you pass from the unobservant into the realms of the ridiculous.

I mean- you have Justin Bieber now. So what? You had the fucking Osmonds in the 1970s. What's the sodding difference? Proper music fans were listening to awesome music then and they are listening to awesome music now.

Now, if you're saying simply that the standard of music played on the radio is getting worse, it's possible you might have some kind of point, but you can't judge that objectively. I mean, I would wholeheartedly argue that the golden age of radio music was the 1990s because stuff like The Wildhearts was considered mainstream. But then, half of that is simply nostalgia because that's when I was a fresh faced young lad.

In other news, Goat, I can't believe that you got so worked up over the question of Libertines vs Arctic Monkeys. Especially given that FS, for all his faults, is right on this one. Arctic Monkeys are tedious undergraduate crap, and the Libertines have some really nice crack addled punk tunes.

Woah. Wasn't expecting support from rio. Although I do NOT agree that the AM are "tedious undergraduate crap". Hmpf.

 WTF. The Libertines are the very definition of tedious crap!
