If someone chooses to use their sexual appeal to sell themselves, then you as an independent observer have no right to stop them. I'd rather live in a society where someone selling themselves through their body is permitted rather than a society where it's banned. Ideally, yes, she'd sell through musical talent, but just because being sexy is her only talent doesn't mean you have to get all authoritarian on her ass.
Not complaining about her having the right to do it. Complaining about how we have a society who eats it up and basks in it not realizing that she isn't just a cooch and tits. She obviously has no voice. I never said she should be stoned. Her audience should be.

No more overt thank Mick Jagger or Axl Rose grabbing his crotch. What the fuck, guys.
This is exactly what I meant. Jagger didn't dress like a prostitute when he did this. We live in a phallocentric society where Jagger makes women bow down to his pelvic thrusts while her "where's your dick at" is welcomed by men who are basically if that's how you're going to be I'll take some. There's a difference between the worship and exploitation.

Assuming that Jagger's pelvic thrusts aren't being welcomed by his female fanbase with the same intensity that the men welcome Ke$ha-esque dancing.
I'm actually thinking that there is no intensity in men welcoming Ke- (does she really spell her name with a $?) dancing. It is kinda an "oh you're easy? I'll fuck it" response. Everyone knows she is singing about being a whore and look down upon her for that. People worshipped Jagger; they didn't see him as a two-bit whore. And that's what's wrong with seeing her as some liberating goddess.

Quote:
You've relegated the female role in the bedroom into this alcove of limiting idealization and perverse feminism. It seems like the ideal situation for women is for them to be physically ignored in a sexual context, or for them to never be grabbed or moved somewhere forcefully in bed, when many, many women will tell you how much they actually enjoy having someone take control.
What you're missing is that "taking control" is in no way exclusively linked to the standard male-female relationship, thereby depriving it as a concept of any inherent moral value as fare as gender roles are concerned. You're issuing a judgment call without taking into consideration things like personal quirks, fetishes, psychological mindsets, fantasies, etc.
Ke$ha is merely expressing a heretofore unorthodox attitude for women in the mainstream pop scene to take. Talking about using men or comparing them to accessories ("Boots & Boys") probably isn't welcomed by many men.
This would be a critique of people seeing her as a whore without any further consideration. I'm perfectly fine with her wanting to take control in a relationship and use men like men have used women. Bravo for her establishing an "unorthodox attitude". However don't dress like a tramp. Don't flaunt your shit like every other pop star which represent the orthodox vision. You cast her as something different but she is in no way different than Britney Spears or the Pussycat Dolls in appearance. It's fucking bullshit that you're casting her as this champion for feminism. Hegemony at its worst, when challenges to it simply play into and reinforce the schema which it has forced upon us.

Who cares about about some worthless slut that only a man of very little honor or self respect would touch with a ten foot pole?

Anybody that would touch this fucking petri dish better have had their shots.

I'm sure if King danced like Shikira that thread would be huge

I'd like to give a longer response, but I'm watching Frasier and can't be arsed. Plus, Metalstorm pisses me off.

All I can say is, you really think Ke$ha (yes, I'll spell it with a dollar sign. Hmpf) is easy or presents herself as easy? She seems like a selective, hard-to-reach, quasi-emasculating girl. Pay more attention to the lyrics. U.U

Obviously Fridge's feminist stuff is balls, but really, dressing like a tramp is exactly how she sells sea shells, and it's only your moral guidelines (and valefor's, admittedly) that find this repulsive. If that's how she makes money, who the hell are any of we to complain? It's not like Cristina Scabbia doesn't increase sales of Lacuna Coil albums with her photoshoots.

I like how you've actually considered whether a pop star is up for it or not based on the songs she sings. FFS.

It's not about what she's actually up for, it's about the image she's deliberately projecting, i.e. the artistic concept. FFS.

See, where you've gone wrong is looking for an artistic concept in a Kee$ha song.

Thats because she actually has talent, something this ke$hit wench lacks. What really sucks[for me at least]is that I work with people that think that this,MR Gaga, and similar pop garbage is actually quality music. And these people are by no means kids,I'm talking about 25-45 year old men.Pitiful really.

I'm not really worried about it. It'll always be that way.

This.

There is no art to this music. It's a money grab, pure and simple.

Lady Gaga > Christina Scabbia ez imo. I'll take playful and catchy pop music over the pseudoaggressive and emotionless garbage Lacuna Coil makes anyday.

I remember hearing a Kesha song and kinda liking it but not enough to listen to any more of her stuff.

Lacuna Coil is by no means good metal,I just think Christina has a MUCH better voice than most of the top 40 female singers,at least the ones I reluctantly hear on the radio.

Are you serious I mean I'm not the biggest fan of Lacuna Coil but hell I'll take Scabbia over Gaga any day of the week.
