I deleted my previous post, a little too confrontational I think.

Points:
1) What I've heard from BFMV is by no means good.

2) The Last Fight, was, I felt, bad but not as godawful as the reviewer's portrayal of the album.

3) I am new to metalcore in the sense that I've largely avoided it save for a few albums that people have recommended and one or two individual songs. The Last Fight sounds most like Trivium to me, what with the thrashier aspect (to be fair about 3/4 of the riffs were wimpy, and the rest were just bland). The only metalcore I remember genuinely enjoying was some of All Shall Perish's stuff. Even supposedly better bands like Killswitch and Mendeed don't appeal to me.

4) Not to go into too much detail, but I personally don't think much of In Flame's material, new or old. However, I will state that even their overrated early output is far far better than this. A Sense of Purpose is about level in terms of Do Not Want with this song.

5) My original intent in posting here was to see what the main reasons were that everyone else hated them. It seems those reasons are mostly catch-alls for mainstream metalcore. Valid, but a bit silly to me that people exaggerate so much when it comes to describing this kind of music. Perhaps it's because you all have heard much more metalcore than I so you're sick of even what outsiders would call decent stuff at this point (I can totally understand that; I feel the same way about Gothenburg Melodeath after having heard so much of it, hence the jab at In Flames)

Metalcore isn't all white belts, tight pants, and breakdowns, and it doesn't have to be a friendly pushover genre derided by metalheads. Listen to Misericordiam and then come back and tell me the music has no power.. T

Yeah, when you've been following metalcore for a while it does get more tiresome than other genres. I do have a special hatred for BFMV, though, considering even Funeral For A Friend are better songwriters and have less annoying vocals.

I understand why many hate them, but I think you are just a little bit too superficial, because there was a time when long guitar solos were a no go in the mainstream and it was all about death metal screams and riffs in the metalcore scene, a little band from wales showed the emo KE kids, that twin guitar leads, thrash metal riffs and long solos are not so bad at all. And maybe they were one of the reasons, that classic thrash metal got popular again during the last years.

I mean, today we can choose between dozens of new thrash bands, and the old are also back again, but in 2005, when the first BfmV came out, there weren't that many popular (new) thrash bands.

It takes more to make a band good than thrash riffs and solos. And giving BFMV credit for the thrash revival =

I listened to a song from this and it would've been pretty cool if the drums and clean vocals sounded real.

Umm wow. The fact that shit bands like Trivium and BFMV incorporated more soloes into their music has less to do with creating the thrash revival than it does them hopping on the thrash revival bandwagon. Municipal Waste was doing it back in 2003 for example so get the fuck out with that shit.

I might be the only one, but Trivium > BFMV. At least Trivium's latest had some decent songs.

Trivium really doesn't play metalcore anymore...

I suppose trying to get people give them a chance is a lost cause.

I don't think Metalwarrior has a point because thrash revival fans and BFMV fans tend to not be the same people.

Shogun was surprisingly one of the best metal albums of 2008 imo.

1. Ok, that's a point. :D

2. Whereas I liked Crusade more, because it was more thrash than metalcore, and I'm normally not a metalcore fan and I'm only listen to BfmV and Trivium, because of the thrash parts.

I still haven't listened to The Crusade for some reason. I should get onto that.

LOL you listen to BFMV just for the thrash parts

Dude seriously there are THRASH bands that actually have thrash parts as well as good vocals. You might want to check them out.
