Time's approaching to replace my MP3 player. My Sony's served me well, but I want something that will play video as well. Found a few potentials:

Samsung YP-R1EB 2.7 - inch Wide 16GB
Transcend MP860 8GB

Anyone have/ever used them? Being a cheap bastard I don't really want to shell out for an iPod. Leaning towards the Samsung at the moment, but mind is open. Any other suggestions gratefully received, I'll need a new mobile as well soon enough so is there something which could combine the two?

I don't know if Alba make these types of things, but if they do, don't fucking get it.

 Noted.

Forgot to mention the Sony S-series as well, considering that in addition to above two.

Is 8GB or 16GB enough for video as well? That isn't even enough for my music!

I've managed perfectly to date with 8Gb, and change the contents a lot, so popping up to 16GB should be fine. Don't tend to watch videos on the go.

Seriously. It can play any kind of audio you throw at it, has amazing sound quality, stereo speakers like a fucking boombox, and can play a lot of video formats as well.

I'm on a budget.

That seems to do everything well for half the price of an iPod.

Get a used one, I did, and it works very very well, I'm never going back to Sony or Creative or whatever. I would prefer an iPhone though, cause the iPod's basically one without the call function.

Just get an older iPod.

I got one of those 80 GB bricks when they first came out. It was expensive then, but that was 5 years ago. It still works like a charm today and i've got over 10000 songs on it and over 20 videos. And I still have room for lots more.

iTunes is pretty damn simple to use/get use to. takes a few minutes to download, then you import your songs. then drag-and-drop onto your iPod.

simple.

My Ibiza Rhapsody is my best friend:

30 Gb, and can be bought for less than half the cost of your standard iPod Touch on Amazon. Supports video (though not as many file types as I would like) and comes with a free 30 day trial subscription to Rhapsody, which you can connect to wirelessly; the player can download an album in a minute or less if you have a good enough wireless connection.

Of course, if you're not interested in Rhapsody then this probably isn't worth getting, as navigating menus can be a bit slow.

Yeah, not very Rhapsodian, and I want something that I can drag-drop from any PC with, which puts iTunes out the window. I'm too used to my marvellous Sony to bother learning some crappy new Apple system.

So long as iTunes is installed, you can drag and drop from any PC with an iPod. That is what I do.

Goddamit, stop telling me things I don't want to hear! My brother's getting an iPod Touch tomorrow, I'll steal that and see if I fancy one. The lack of wide support for differing video formats turns me off, though.

You keep saying that, but you're the only one I've ever heard say that about iPods.
