I've had this for a bit but it doesn't really do anything for me. Definitely not bad or anything, I just didn't get what all the praise was about. I'd probably sit it around more like a 75-80.

It's great if you let yourself go. Very trippy stuff.
I usually don't like BM or anything related to it, this one caught me by surprise.

They are a great band from my home state of Montana USA:) Been listening to Martriden for a while. Actually, they were on Candlelight and went independent/self release for this new album. They should be on a bigger label to distro this great disc for sure. Good review...Also, underground tip from a local ...If curious, look at Throne of Malediction and Walking Corpse Syndrome (on Myspace ect.) for other cool MT bands with very original styles. Metal is alive here!!! :dio:

I have a question for Crash.
This is my first Martriden and I loved how melodic, epic and progressive it was. I went to their MA page and saw they had released a S/T Ep and an album, The Unsettling Dark. How would you compare those to Encounter the Monolith?

PS: I read in your review that you hadn't listened to Martriden previous material when writing this review. I asked anyway because I hope, seeing how you loved EtM, that you have now.

I know you're not asking me but I personally like The Unsettling Dark more than this album.

This is really cool. This, Gojira, Gaza, and Kverlertak are making me really like metal again.
