I tried and tried and tried and tried and then tried some more to like this album. All I got out of it is infinite boredom.
I can see why some people like this, I just don't.

Best Bathory album, period. Showcases the best of both their black / thrash side and their atmospheric viking side. Great review Tyler, a bit long but that's understandable when reviewing an album of this magnitude. :dio:

If you listen to the titletrack alone I cannot see how one cannot enjoy this album. The titletrack is for me is the greatest metal song of all time, from the acoustic intro recalling two opposing armies preparing for war, to that monstrous buildup and the chanting of the chorus. This comment withstanding, Blood, fire, death is an album that represents true extremity in metal, when you listen to it it's amazing how one man devised that much atmosphere. Every one of the faster tracks buildups up from the war-themed nature, and the atmosphere isn't lost on the titletrack and Odens rides over the Norland. I can only say that the album is the highest point of Quorthon's career, and that it's one of the metal underground's most glorious testaments to human creativity.

This thread makes me really miss Quorthon. Heck, I even liked the Nordland albums.

Yes. Not sure about the self-titled, great but not as great as the other five.

Great review.

I dont know man i actually love the first album, there's something about its simplicity and rawness that really click with me, im not a fan of Black Metal but Bathory, Venom and Hellhammer are right up my alley.

An absolute classic and a blueprint for Black Metal. Nothing short of a complete masterpiece. Nice review Tyler.

+1. Haven't tried this in a year and a half or so, maybe my tastes have changed since then.
