This is indeed good stuff. I wonder what the magic ingredient was? Judging by the credits, I'd have to say Carlos Cavazo.

Lyrics at times lay on the cliches too thickly, but hair metal is allowed to get away with that.

I thought the new Scorpions album was one of the best 80's metal band comebacks of the year. However. I think that Ratt's new one is even more listenable and closer in style and sound to what they were in the 80's.

Yeah, love this album.

No frills, no pretension, just plain old fun.

It's refreshing to see an "80's band" just do what they do best without trying to prove that they are still relevant today, trying to be something they're not, or becoming a parody of their heyday selves. This album flat out rocks just like Out of The Cellar and Invasion of Your Privacy. Two thumbs up for just doing what they do best, and not worrying about trends or chaning for the sake of change. This album deserves every bit of the positive press it has received. Now, if only acts like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and Dokken could take the same approach....

Incidentally, Y&T's "comeback" album, Facemelter shows that they've still got it too!!

I wasn't much impressed with the new Scorps album. It's good, but it lacks integrity. The songs are largely written by industry songwriters attempting to recapture a sound and scene they never a part of--and it sounds like it.

The Ratt album, however, was written by the dudes that lived that scene, and it has a great replay value because of it. Great stuff. I was pretty surprised with how good it was, actually.

And anyone looking for an older band still doing great things, check out the latest Winger album. That fucker smokes!

There is something missing from the new Scrops, and you pretty much nailed it. I think the band (in their heart anyway) is more in a Humanity Hour 1 place right now, but they opted for a "forced retro" sound of Sting in The Tail instead.

I just hope that this incarnation of Ratt can continue to get along with each other behind the scenes and keep churning out albums like this. Seems like Cavazo is the glue holding the many egos of this band together in addition to his notable songwriting contributions.

Yeah, Winger is better than ever right now, and I think the new Keel album is worth a mention here too. Aside from being a little thin on the bass, it's another hell of an album that just rocks without and pretention.
