So this thread is about bands you don't like?

As a government bureaucrat I have plenty of time for this list!

In a nutshell, band's I've tried to get into but couldn't:

Behemoth - brilliant live yet somehow I don't go much on their music.

Judas Priest - only like the song Screaming for Vengeance rest is shit.

Napalm Death - brilliant concept yet early stuff was too insane, mid-stuff was boring Death Metal, later stuff was too blast beat orientated.

Modern techincal DM ala Psycroptic - boring though Psycroptic are very good live.

Modern brutal DM - just boring and too much blast beating.

Nile - too much blast beating for my likes

Stratovarious - too poofy yet I like Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray. What the fuck?

Porngrind/Gore Grind

Black Metal - again brilliant conceptually but just didn't work for me musically.

Cannibal Corpse - who needs them when the late 80's/early 90's produced so many better bands - Carcass, Morbid Angel, Bolt Thrower, Atheist even Malevolent Creation and Monstrosity. Again WTF?

Death - Hypothetically I like these guys yet something gripes when I listen to them.

Dismember for most part - drums get irritating yet I like their sound.

Witchery - blackened thrash should work but these guys are a yawn fest.

In Flames from Clayman onwards - turned to utter shit.

Soilwork - really boring melo-death followed by irritating pop. Yet for some reason I regret getting rid of Natural Born Chaos.

Destruction/Sodom - I just can't listen to these guys cause I think Kreator's so much better. Destruction's earlier stuff is gutless and boring and their later stuff is too shouty. Sodom just never managed to kick it into gear for me.

Testament post Legacy - yawn!

Exodus - they have moments but not enough of them. Really good live though.

Emperor - again I love the concept and the sound but at the same time something irks me about them so much I can't listen to them.

Dissection - overrated

Shadows Fall - I like Of One Blood even though it sound bad. The other stuff doesn't work for me.

Hatebreed/Stampin Ground/other Metalcore - it bores me and I hate the soft singing in bands such as As I Lay Dying.

On my defense, I have tried very hard to like Judas Priest. I try to find enjoyment in all music that I listen to, and such a huge band that everybody likes is obviously a big miss for me. But it just doesn't sound good to my ears. Maybe it's because I heard Painkiller first and couldn't get over the fact that Screaming for Vengeance is gay compared to it. I was expecting more Painkiller.

Another list with Napalm Death on?!

Mind you, dead1 appears to have listed every band on the planet, so it's not so bad.

I just never ever, saw what the fuzz is all about. It is mainly the vocals that kills it big time for me though. They are absolutely awful. IMOIMOIMOIMOIMO

Fair enough. At first I hated Hansi's singing too. Now, though I still think it's the weakest thing in BG's music, I appreciate is for they don't ruin the music.

When I said Motorhead, I meant in the context of being one of the best, not being shitty. But yeah, just doesn't work that well for me.

Why is Number Of The Beast so loved? it is decent, but very middle of the road. The average power metal album is better.

I wonder what the formula is fo a boring album. I think it is something along the lines of playing the root note, then playing the 5th, then playing the the 4th, then back to the root in the wrong order, or something.

If there are any other singers out there you know how close the root and 5th are to sounding identical, so there you go.

Yeah, and I think i've heard like four bands play the album and none were any better than the last.

I think the problem is that extremely complex melodies are a pandora's box. Once you have that, there is no going back to simplicity, hence a lot of classic albums don't sound as good as they could have.

I think this is why Steely Dan fans think everything else sucks. They have gotten used to weird jazz harmonies and that sort of melody. Or a David Foster fan, where flat production sounds dull as hell.

Just enjoy the music and stop trying to analyze it.

What the heck? You love the concept and sound but 'something irks you'? That doesn't make sense: please explain.

I can think of only Anthrax. Never understood the big deal about them. Apart from that, most grindcore. Early Carcass is the only stuff I can listen to. I tried Napalm Death, but they never did anything for me. It's not the band, it's the genre. I find grindcore to be boring.

If it's just the song, Painkiller shits all over Screaming For Vengeance. Screaming.... is just an average Priest track. That's again just my opinion. Boy, this thread is fun. Hope it doesn't get ugly.

I like a lot of what I've heard from Judas Priest, but "United" is a terrible song.
