I love BG but wouldn't have rated this one higher than a 70/100.

Good review, you actually made me check the album again. I am a huge Blind Guardian fan, I like literally everything they made, old and new, except this album and Carry the Blessed home from A twist in the myth. Banish from sanctuary and Valhalla are absolutely killer, but what is in-between those two songs doesn't work well for me for some reason. Not that I hate them, but I haven't yet felt the need to listen to them. To each his own I guess! But thanks to your review, I'll try to get into this album once again. I have tried it a few times already, but they all failed :(.

Decent outing from BG but BOF and NIME are much better.

Great album, more of a speed metal than a power metal offering. Definately not as good as their later material, but does contain some absolute classics. Contains also the second most unheralded BG song next to Last Candle, Beyond the Ice. Without a doubt one of the most awesome instrumentals ever.

Don't even need to mention how awesome Banished from Santuary is. Valhalla is pretty awesome as well.

Definately more of a thrasher than say.......everything lately.

BTW, the best version of Banished from Sanctuary has got to be the version on Tokyo Tales. Simply awesome. The crowd basically sings all the lyrics for Hansi. Ahh the good old days when BG fans were maniacal speed metal fans and not fluffy little boys with Elven nick names.

Now that you mentioned unheralded, another one of those is The Hobbit, and I think the main reason is that it's named Bard's Song. A bad decision, many people thought it was a filler and unworthy track due to it's copy-paste naming, not giving it a proper chance, while in fact its one of the most unique and beautiful songs they ever wrote. Learning the lyrics and singing along is mandatory to understand it!

+1 , i`ve always wondered why they only play In The Forest in concerts and not The Hobbit, such a killer song.

Bliiiiiiiind in the dark dungeon's night! :dio:

Oddly enough you're not the first person I've heard say that. I know a guy who only likes the first two and absolutely hates everything after. Weird. Guess there's two of you now. ha ha

Good album, but I prefer Tales From the Twilight World.

I wouldn't say I hate the rest. I just don't enjoy them.

Valhalla is BG's best song ever. It was certainly the best song they played live when I saw them back in 06 or 07.

Not my fav BG release, but a great one. Banished, Hall of the king and Valhalla are among my all time BG fav songs.
An 80-85 imo. But the best had yet to come in the next 3-4 records, all masterpieces.

I actually like it. The colours remind me of old games like Monkey Island.

you seriously have a problem with this? It is Blind Guardian after all.
