Here I was thinking that this site was over posting threads like this....

What a waste of time...this is just a chance for people looking for attention via bullshit shock value and then sitting back waiting for the reactions to flood in...

Not so. It led me to retry Coroner and I fucking dig that shit now. I think it's interesting to re-evaluate classics and this a way of doing that.

I never understood what's so great about Lost Horizon. I own A Flame To The Ground Beneath, and besides one incredible song (Pure) the rest is just okay. Songwriting (in terms of structure) isn't too good either, in my opinion.

This alone makes it all worth while. So shines a good deed in a weary thread.

I thought they played Hellfest and that was it. Maybe some more shows but no talk of an album.

Wow overrated bands, well let's start with Cannibal Corpse, they seem to just rerelease the same album for the most part. Never been a big Deicide fan, think most of their success was from Glen Benton's ability to draw attention.

Both bands are pretty weak, IMO... But I give them credit for being early pioneers of their genre and kinda getting the style out there. That's about it.

Agreed on Cannibal Corpse (which was in my list) but also Deicide. Deicide had a few good tracks but not enough to fill a single album.

I'll add Suffocation to the mix - I think the problem here is that I heard a lot of brutal DM before I heard Suffocation so when I heard them they sounded generic in a genre that they helped pioneer.

I've discovered that I most of my preferred Death Metal is rather non-standard - early Morbid Angel, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Edge of Sanity, Kataklysm, Atheist, Gorefest etc. Most of these bands are groovy and riffy and don't mind throwing curve balls into the mix in terms of their sound and/or style.

I tend to stay away from the legions of clone DM bands that ape a few select original bands.
