One of the greatest albums of all time, my favorite album of the seventies. Without Joy Division, Bauhaus, and Siouxsie and the Banshees the metal scene today would be a hell of a lot different. There'd be no gothic metal and I doubt that that black metal would be as dark as it is without those bands. Definitely a classic and influential enough to be on the site plus it's a great review.

I'm disturbed how a Joy Division got a classic status albeit a deserved one when a Deep Purple album gets a 81...

Deep Purple do already have three classics, with doubtless more to come. Should every one of their albums be classic'd? This might be a divisive choice, but like Garrixon said, it is quite a foundation for modern rock and metal, and was discussed by the team prior to implementation.

By the way, in Belgium we call this music cold wave.
And I didn't say it was not an important album, it clearly is. I just think it had far enough exposure already.

We do?
I never listened to Joy Division, I only know them by name and that they were an important new wave band. It's just that I've never heard of the term "cold wave". So you might be right, I don't know.

dark wave? Awesome album which I haven't given nearly enough focus to. I approve this choice. Very influential in my eyes even if it isn't 'true' or 'kvlt', whatever asshat phrase people want to use.

Are you from Flanders?
In Wallonie we call this cold wave but that could be derived from what the French say...

Yes I am, although it's only a ten minute drive to get to Wallonia. I live very close to Hélécine, if you know where that is.

I don't listen to new wave, so I have absolutely no idea which terms are used in the genre, etc. But I'll give it a shot, who knows I might even like it.

New Wave in itself has spanned so many names of subgenres that mostly didn't exist when those albums were released.

It makes Metal sub-genres look sensible and highly accurate.

Source wikipedia:
Coldwave, also written as Cold Wave, is the French variant of Dark Wave, Gothic rock and Post-punk music, primarily spread in France, South Belgium and Romandy.

That explains everything.

I'm not familiar with this band and really can't comment as to whether or not it deserves classic status. But if many consider this to be the beginning of something that influenced countless other artists than that could be a very valid reason for the classic stamp. I even think Gary Numan's "Pleasure Principle" deserves classic status as that was a big influence on what we now know as Industrial Metal.

A thoroughly deserved classic in my opinion. One of my all time favourite non metal albums.

Pretty decent album... post punk, BTW.
They inspired a lot of coldwave bands, but they are pretty much at the post punk vanguard.
If you like this, check out early Clair Obscur.

I don't know about deserving "classic" status, but The Pleasure Principle is a very good and underappreciated album, even better than Replicas, which is itself very good and underappreciated.
