Cheers. I find myself not really interested in metal anymore. The occasional rock craving but all the favorite bands that I had in the past have subdued for good. Maybe they'll come back in the future and maybe they won't. Classical music is what I listen to most lately.

Leaving the metal world for classical music is acceptable. Who are your favorites right now?

Yeah. That is understandable and a respectable way to go. I always though classical music was the way to go if I ever get fed up with metal. Can't see that happening soon though.

Well, I have to say Bach followed by Vivaldi.

Well I just picked up a Haggard's new CD and have been listening to Alice in Chains and Katatonia's new album quite a few times which I enjoyed. I also enjoy dark ambient atmospheric music like dark sanctuary which is an old favorite.

May I suggest you to try Aranis' Song from Mirage? Great album which combines RIO (rock in opposition), chamber rock and dark classical music.

I like classical. I find a lot of it is similar to metal in terms of intensity.

The 2nd best concert I've ever been to (after Iron Maiden) was a classical performance in a Vienna hall that was one of Mozart's favourite venues. Music played was mainly by Bach and the two Strausses. Spectacular.

In fact in the last 3 or so years I have been to more classical concerts than I have metal ones.

I'm enjoying this quite a bit, thank you for the suggestion. Estradasphere (musical group) is also very good.

That's wonderful, I haven't had the prestige of going to an opera nor a symphony yet. I also have to add Wagner as a favorite, the birth of dark music.

We're lucky in that the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra plays a few times a year in my town.

They also do a free event called "Symphony Under The Stars" whereby they play a free live show at the main park in summer. It's pretty awesome to sit there listening to some truly beautiful music whilst drinking wine and eating great food.

I'm also a big fan of the theatre in general - saw a great version of Les Miserables earlier this year.

And yet the only allocated Metal gig for the year is Metallica/Lamb of God. Talk about selling out!

Well, one cannot deny the majesty of classical music although I use to say that about Metal music and even as we speak I would still say it about bands like Windir and Emperor, though the time is quickly passing by. After listening to 10 years of metal music, even though I would have never thought it would get tiresome... it really has. As for theater, I haven't really caught anything on the stage but there has been two very good movies I've seen in the past little while: "The Piano tuner of earthquakes" and "Hunger" two brilliant movies.

People evolve, they change...

And they change back. After about '92 or '93 I went for probably 10 years without listening to much of anything resembling metal. It was grunge, punk, pop, anything. Then one day I found myself missing the rush and was shocked to discover all the quality metal that had sprouted in my absence.

Regarding classical, I have listened to it (all styles, you name it) pretty consistently for over 25 years and even that gets old after a while. You eventually grow wearisome of the overuse of conventions, the tedious passages, the sheer length. You begin to look for a more concentrated form of energy, otherwise known as metal.

Of course, the pendulum eventually swings back and you find yourself longing for the sound of a full orchestra swelling in your ears, the complexity, variety and satisfaction that only works of genius can provide.

I suppose a happy medium between the two are soundtracks, a genre which I have grown quite attached to.

I suppose the ultimate advice is don't overlisten to something and ruin it for yourself. You don't want to find yourself hating classical in years to come.

I see, well... it is after all quite ordinary to get tired of any genre of music and keeping a balance between the genres of music one listens to is essential. I'll try to keep an ear open as you said... and metal is after all the backbone of my music taste and classical quite related to it, although sometimes one just gets tried music in general and prefers the silence!
