Ohh, I get it. You think your opinion is absolute and others should follow the same standards you have set for music. That is an interesting way to approach things if you happen to be 15.

Anything involving Olaf Thorsen is better than every prog rock or prog metal band I have ever heard. That is my opinion. If you don't like it, that's tough.

Stop turning every damn thread into a flamewar. No one called you an idiot because of what you liked or spitefully insulted the bands you mentioned. You must feel threatened by me for some reason, go see a head doctor and leave me out of it from now on.

Threatened? Not at all. I just find your posts immensely amusing.
But let's not derail this trail, there'll be plenty more where you'll showcase your oh so peculiar musical taste...

For the prog side of things, The Tangent. A little self-indulgent at times, ...and all the other hallmarks of the genre as well.

Fuck that there.. Don't take other threads' arguments here. Leave them where they're due.

NWOBHM:

Avenger: especially their first album.
Tyrant: they only released singles and such, but they have a great little anthology called Days at the farm.
The first two Tokyo Blade albums
Roxxcalibur - NWOBHM for Muthas; a great cover album of mainly NWOBHM obscure bands, it sounds good in itself and can guide towards other bands as well.
some new bands: Harbinger - Doom on You and The Metal Shakespeare Company - s/t

Epic heavy: Ironsword and Atlantean Kodex.
I imagine you're familiar with Brocas Helm, if not, get Defender Of The Crown instantly.

Doom Metal:

Sinister Realm and Argus, both american bands released strong self titled debuts last year.
If you like Briton Rites, you may wanna try the latest Hour of 13, same vocalist.
Minotauri, the finnish band.
Dawn of Winter and Lord Vicar.
Apostle of Solitude
Age of Taurus - these guys only have a demo, but it's so good I already see them as a future force in doom metal

rough Power Metal:
Helstar, Liege Lord, Meanstreak (the band of 3 actual wives of guys in Dream Theater), Cage, maybe some Marshall Law

Death Metal:
new Grave, Cemetery Urn and Immolation
Sadistic Intent
Grave Miasma

Black Metal:
Goatpenis - Biochemterrorism
For some merciless old school primitive black/death (think Archgoat): Blasphemophagher - …For Chaos, Obscurity and Desolation…
For some great blackened thrash/speed/heavy metal: Sodomizer

Thrash Metal:
Violator - Annihilation Process
Raped God - s/t
Trench Hell - try the split with Assaulter
Lair of The Minotaur - Evil Power
Hellish Crossfire - Bloodrust Scythe
Sauron - Thrash Assault
Wastelander - Wardrive

Some old underrated stuff: Carnivore, Morbid Saint and Anacrusis.

+ 10,000 internets to Oldschool for mentioning Brocas Helm, Hour Of 13, Ironsword, Liege Lord and all those other terrific bands.

Dark Metal

Thrash Metal

Thergothon - Stream From The Heavens
Ea - I haven't listened to them, but I guess they are pretty good from what I have read about them.

Not really no, and I've listened. I've stayed away from funeral doom recs because metal XXX wasn't too fond of the lack of speed in Ahab; but, if anyone were to try a Russian funeral doom band, I would avoid Ea in favor of the brilliant Abstract Spirit.

Awesome bands, and if I remember correctly I reviewed that Brocas Helm here. Atlantean Codex is fucking amazing and they were just picked up by Cruz del Sur. Looking forward to their debut.

Oh and:

Swallow the Sun: This has the potential to give me some shivers. Will definitely give New Moon a couple of more spins at least.

Daylight Dies: Their upbeat songs are pretty fun. Very nice vocal work.

Doomsword: Is one awesome band, that I've of course listened to and should've listed. Haven't spun them in a while though, so I'll thank you for the reminder.

Isole: Same as Doomsword. Awesome stuff that I'm currently revisiting.

New moon is a great release but "The Morning Never Came" is their masterpiece in my opinion. I got into this band last year and now I'm a huge fan. They have this early Katatonia vibe.

New Moon and Lights on the lake are my favorite tracks on "New Moon"

You might want to check the song "The Justice of suffering" off the album "Hope" it feature Jonas Renkse (Katatonia) on the clean vocal parts.

Dismantling Devotion is their best release IMO

Hmm. Guess I will have to give them a listen. Will check a few tracks of them on youtube. Have had a strong urge to discover more Doom of late.

I thought Ea was quite alright actually. I've only heard Ea Taesse though, I don't know if they've done anything besides that.

The Gates of Slumber: Excellent true doom, very nice.

Reverend Bizarre:
Listened to this long ago, and so long suckers is one of my top 8 doom metal albums.

While Heaven Wept:
Dunno how this has slipped my radar, very nice and powerful doomy power metal.

Jex Thoth: Checked them out last year, and just couldn't get into them. Seems that I still can't.

Ogre: A little too simple sound-wise for my liking. Other than that, they're very good.[/b]

I love the first song off their 2008 album and can't get beyond that.

Terzij de Horde: Something about them attracts me. But the stuff I heard so far hasn't been interesting enough I'm afraid, even though there's riffage there that I should love. Am I the only one hearing screamo-influences here?

Castevet
: Now, this is the shit I'm looking for within Black Metal. I hear that the vocals will take some time getting used to but whatever. Great stuff.

Skagos: What I've heard so far is a bit too primitive for my liking. Sound-wise at least. They sound pretty appealing otherwise.

Ravage:
There's a bunch of different Ravage-bands. Could the one who recommended me this link me to a site or something?

Steel Assassin:
How did this pass me by? This sounds fecking awesome.
