well after reading all the above comments and sighing at the pointlessness of it all, i'm just gonna piss everyone off and say i think all the above-mentioned albums are awesome. and i mean it. (except the one that got reviewed, haven't listened to that one yet :P ) there's no point arguing over personal opinion, people. well it can be fun i guess...anyway, 'too noodly' for some can mean 'awesomely melodic' or whatever to someone else, or 'repetitive and songs all blend into one another' can be another man's 'killer brutality uuuuaaaarrrggghh'. but hey, we all know this anyway. me, i likes em all. peace my brothers :dio:

The technical death metal realm was perfected with Cryptopsy, just my opinion.

And Still_Life, I agree with you.

That's why I gave the album a higher grade than I would have if I was only influenced by personal taste. My job is to mix 2 things:

1. My personal opinion
2. How the album represents the genre as a whole

As far as the genre itself goes, Decrepit Birth do it better than most and fans of the genre may find a lot to love that I don't. I recognize that a lot of the fault is in me and not the band. At the same time, a lot of the fault is on the band and not me so it is balanced out either way. If I went off my own taste, I'd give it a D but I can imagine a large portion of people giving it a B, so there ya go: a C.

I gave it a rather neutral score to balance this out. I am obligated to give it a score, so I gave it an average score.

And just because other bands have been brought up, I'll do a little personal opinion on these other bands:

Hour of Penance - More riffage than your standard death metal, but needs a lot of work.
Fleshgod Apocalypse - Awesome when they are awesome. Expecting great things.
Obscura - Meh, listen to Gorod instead.
